Wasn't Russia officially declared failed state by US President years ago? And now ONLY half of experts expect Russia to become one in 10 years? Seems to me US Presidents got problems with their speech writers/PR/experts....

Ensemble predictions by subject matter experts are worthless in the fields of

- economics

- politics

- war

There may be a few more, but you're best off replacing any of these statements with "we have no idea" because even if they think that they know what's going on, their predictions - even in aggregate form - have never held up to scrutiny because these areas are inherently unpredictable.

The standard reaction when (if ever) confronted with their bad predictions of the past is to say that "nobody could foresee [insert event X here]" and then spin a yarn how this specific event altered the otherwise perfectly deterministic trajectory of history. They never live up to the fact that because they didn't foresee X, their prediction was useless to begin with, and always will be because next time, unless they're lucky, there's going to be another X. The future would be clear, were not all these Xs all over the place.

The first thing they taught us in Economics 101 was that the theory of economics is based on people behaving rationally. 🤣

kind of reminds me  the winter of 1987-88, when at the small community i lived, thre was a the go-cart club, and they (probably hand-made) pikes for go-cart rear wheels and one day, when 11-year old bd1 was going downhill on his sled to the local pond, out of garage door 200m. away came Oliver, my next-door neighbour, on a go-cart, with spikes, and asked me ´´have you heard of  paris-dakar rally and Peugeot 205 evo?

wanna try , me towing you? ´´

2 minutes later i slammed into icy wall on frozen-pond-cart-race-track and lost a tooth iirc  😀

Sounds like good, clean fun ... until your eyes catch the spikes shedded by the rear wheels.

Cannot remember the exact details, but one of two of our most memorable patients suffered an eye injury by a city street sweeper/cleaner while riding a bicycle. Iirc, alcohol was involved.
