Murph Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Now that just looks too cold to even be considered. You have to have really, really big balls to do that, and of course afterwards, they are very, very small ones....."Russification"
MiloMorai Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Murph, Google polar bear dip/plunge. New Years Day tradition in many places.
Panzermann Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I call that successful integration and acceptance of local.customs. There are also many russians that like to swim in cut open frozen over lakes and pools. It gets the circulation going they say.

Roman Alymov Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Water leaked from a tank on the truck? I think not leaked but deliberately opened after truck got stuck (see axes position) to prevent water tank from being blown by ice.

Simon Tan Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 In Russia....Minister is gunman. But uses Czech pistols.

Roman Alymov Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 In Russia....Minister is gunman. Not exactly minister but head of different defense-related committees, taking care of mil industry. By the way he is professional journalist with absolutely zero military or engineering background, so hardly suitable for the role he perform, despite being known shooting enthusiast. KGB was wise not to take him in when he was young and dreamed of becoming spy (officially skipped because of limitations on people with KGB family links, his father-in-law was already in)

DB Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Ref your second paragraph - one reason why "fraternisation" is often an offence.
Roman Alymov Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I was watching an interesting documentary about a Vulcan navigator who was having a conversation with a Russian Girl after the wall fell, and was shocked to discover her home town was the target the prepared the attack plan for. He was so upset he was unable to continue talking with her, and was still visibly upset about it years later. Really brings it home to you really. Many years ago I was trained as ICBM launch officer (as part of university program) and when one of the students asked officer lector if we would know what or where are the targets in the list – answer was “No, only target numbers”. So when it comes to ICBM people on lover levels of “red button” chain are unaware of targets – only those who take decision know, and those preparing target lists (but they are normally separated from rocket units). On old individual target rockets it was not so: ground launch team was supposed to “manually” target rocket (if it was mobile launch pad) or was able to tell at least direction to target as rocket got special hatch supposed to be directed to target geographic location. Anyway any nuclear war will eliminate everything, and it is not clear who will be in better situation, those killed instantly by nuke exploding nearby or those not touched directly and facing long death of radiation, hunger, cold and disease.
Roman Alymov Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Too much vodka? Road marking teams here are usually people from Central Asia (migrant workers) – they are not supposed to drink alcohol by their religion. But they sometimes smoke, and more often just do not know how to operate machinery right way. I remember being stopped in the middle of night by one of those people on Moscow minor street – he just wanted to ask me if I know what marking have to be on this crossing….

BP Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I think my grandparents had her bikini pattern as an umbrella once. But I gotta admit, that looks cold as all get out. I reguarly do a New Years "Polar Bear Plunge" for charity, and even in 50F water my testicles go in all sharp-elbowed and try and push my pancreas out of the way en route to some warmth. Now that just looks too cold to even be considered. You have to have really, really big balls to do that, and of course afterwards, they are very, very small ones..... Brian Kennedy Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I think in hindsight, Imperial Russia's biggest fail was giving up on this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Ross,_California. Maybe the climate was too pleasant or something.
Roman Alymov Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Was too complicated for his boss to give him a sheet of paper with instructions and sketches of what to do I guess. Road work bosses are, usually, Armenians - but, despite Armenians where once most educated nation of USSR in terms of University degrees per head, this bosses are mostly mafia-type and care little about quality of work.
