Elon Musk raises funds for his Boring Company by selling 20000 not a flamethrowers, just in time for fire season.

Its getting increasingly hard to tell what is America today or a parody from The Onion.

The not-a-flamethrower is just a glorified propane torch actually. I guess you can roast some marshmellows with it or seal some tarboard.

Just buy a real one from surplus. And mix your own gelled petrol. B)

(in jursidictions where this is legal of course)

Fire is a tool. A useful tool. It's also dangerous. What's new?

What are they gonna ban that in the UK too? :glare:

No Ryan, I think every home should have a flamethrower in it. Its perfectly ideal for home defence.

I noticed that my chickens were exceptionally bothered by Buzzard's flying over my back garden. Now logically there is no real reason why they should be. Nobody told them to be worried about Birds of Prey. Ultimately they did meet one fairly close up (he realized they were bigger than he thought, so ultimately them alone), but even before that, they were hiding from them by reverting to type, behaving as jungle fowl they once were and hiding under the hedge.

I noted that similarly meerkats at the local zoo were doing the same thing, both on the horizontal (actually looking through people or so it looked) and up at the sky. They hadnt a fear of a predator in a 50 miles, yet still they looked for one. So yes, I can entirely believe we are similarly programmed. And its long established we dont actually always see what we think, we see what we expect to see. Or sometimes, we see what we fear to see.

We should have stayed up in the trees, we were far better suited to them than all this civilization malarky IMHO.

Someone who tried hard but did not qualify....

He should have been dragged through the vehicle window and mauled, just because he disrespected the creature outside.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-18/south-africa-safari-tourist-pats-lion-through-car-window/9880118

A tourist has been criticised for patting a lion through the window of a safari jeep in South Africa.

Footage of the man's encounter with the lion has gone viral, with the clip viewed more than 500,000 times on YouTube.

The tourist can be seen reaching past his friend to stroke the animal through the window of the vehicle.

But the tourists got the shock of their lives when the lion turned around to face them and let out a roar.

Clearly rattled by the experience, the tourists then hastily shut the window.

South African safari ranger Naas Smit told The Sun what the tourist did was "incredibly stupid".

"I just have to shake my head when I see people behaving like this and they deserve all they get," he said.

and yes, the a-hole has a 'Biilabong' brand on his cap, which means he is probably of Oz, but the facial fuzz of one of Sam....

The lion's roar made my sack shrivel like a punctured balloon. If thats the effect i get through a PC screen, i take this guys gonads are now uselessly lodged beside his spleen.

AND that was just a 'snarl' not even a full blown roar!

Full blown roars are for the savannah audience, puny two-legs don't merit the effort.

We ourselves barely respect each other, so why would those magnificent creatures?

Well we are, to quote the kilrathi, 'pathetic descendants of monkeys'

Poachers trying to kill Rhinos get eaten by lions. How droll, how rich, they never expected to become lion poop... http://dailycaller.com/2018/07/05/poachers-south-african-rhinos/

Nature takes revenge. Good on the lions. Sadly this does happen too rarely. :(

Makes me wonder who has better 3D thinking. Cats or humans?

Supposedly some predators, big cats included, have so much visual acuity that the prey uses that against them, by messing with them. Hawks are blinded by huge flocks of swallows taking to flight, lions don't know which way the zebra stripes are going, etc... the Red Queen races in a full circle sometime.

When knives, screwdrivers, carpentry tools, etc are banned, people will resort to blunt instruments. After that, poisoning. There will always be a way.

Or as with the UK's gangs, bottles of acid splashed in someone's face.

If we just let them have semi auto pistols and AR15s things would be so much better. Said no sane person, ever.

Quite right, you wouldn't want anyone to be able to defend themselves. In fact, laws to the precise opposite are what I keep seeing on BRITISH media about British cases. Even if you're a judge.

Seriously. It's this simple.

1. People should be able to defend themselves.

2. Put violent criminals in prison. KEEP them there if they show any signs of recidivism.

3. If you deal with the violent offenders you won't HAVE substantial crime with those pistols and AR-15s or anything else. Again, look at the US's rural regions. Violent crime is very low there. See also Switzerland.

The fact that you have acid and knife attacks is due to the fact that the criminal actors which are the actual problem aren't being dealt with.
