rmgill Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Southern Japan in high summer felt more like Florida than Virginia to me.
DB Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 (edited) When North Americans comment about UK weather, they can occasionally be enlightened by pointing out that the southernmost tip of England just scrapes in south of 50 North - Lizard Point - making it 0.7 degrees further north than Vancouver and thus higher than the contiguous states of the US. CONUS is nearly on the same latitude as the mediterranean sea.

JasonJ Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) Southern Japan in high summer felt more like Florida than Virginia to me. Even Osaka is more like Houston than the US north East. It gets very humid here in the summer. Snow is very rare, even more rare if it doesn't melt immediately on the ground. Edited January 17, 2019 by JasonJ

Ivanhoe Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Again, with the feet; https://www.foxnews.com/world/human-foot-washes-on-canadian-beach-15th-overall-since-2007-police-say Canadian authorities on Monday said that they were unable to identify the person whose foot was found last year in a blue sock and a gray Nike sneaker that washed up on the Vancouver shoreline. The foot, which was discovered in September 2018, is the 15th time in just over a decade that a human foot was discovered on the British Columbia shoreline. More than half of those feet were determined to have belonged to people who either died by accident or committed suicide, while the remaining third remain unidentified, according to the B.C. Coroners Service. The coroner's service has determined that the latest foot belonged to a man, but have been unable to match its DNA with any databases. An identification specialist said the foot likely belongs to someone who was under the age of 50.
MiloMorai Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 The feet also show up on the other side of the border. This isn’t just a B.C. phenomenon. Inkster has heard of similar cases elsewhere in the world. The most recent report came last May from Seattle, where volunteers picking up trash at Elliott Bay north of downtown found a foot in a white New Balance sneaker.“It’s just a function of waterways. We’ve had them in places like Norway, where there are a lot of islands and waterways. Wherever there’s a lot of high bridges.” “They’re not severed, they’re disarticulated,” Inkster explains. As the body decomposes the feet are separated from the rest of the body. Time was, the feet would have just stayed underwater with the rest of the body. But Nike Air, and all those other sneakers that followed, changed that with designs that featured little air pockets.“It was just the sudden appearance of the very buoyant shoes,” Inkster said. “It turned them into little life jackets, so (the feet) tend to bob up. Historically, they would just lay there.”With the sneaker-clad feet, “there’s usually a sock and some bones, no teeth, no fingerprints, no ID — how in the world do you even start to guess who that is?”http://www.theprovince.com/quite+solved+mystery+severed+feet/10281333/story.html
Harold Jones Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Looks like Trudeau could be in a spot of trouble. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-wilson-raybould-said-she-was-subjected-to-veiled-threats-in-snc/ Jody Wilson-Raybould says she faced “consistent and sustained” political pressure from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and top officials, including “veiled threats,” on the need to shelve the criminal prosecution of Montreal’s SNC-Lavalin Group Inc.In dramatic televised testimony before the House of Commons justice committee spanning 3½ hours, the former justice minister and attorney-general outlined detailed conversations at the highest levels of the Trudeau government about helping the Quebec engineering and construction giant out of its legal difficulties.
R011 Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Justin and his ministers are trying to spin that they're just worried about jobs and wanted to make sure that Wilson-Raybould was taking all the consequences of action into account - but deny saying anything to her that could be construed as interference. Any questions are being answered by "Jobs!!!!!" media here are left and certainly readier to crucify a Conservative than a Liberal, but they are also sharks smelling blood in the water. Besides, most of them are NDP, the social democratic party, rather than Liberal.
glenn239 Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Like R011 said. Trudeau went on television last night, presumably hoping that his charisma would bail him out. But he's telling Canadians that the Indigenous female minister with impressive notes and professional demeanour that stood up with integrity to the Ottawa swamp is actually the bad guy. He's done irreparable damage to his reputation.
BansheeOne Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Justin will be along shortly to lecture you that she's actually the bad peoplekindperson.
