Diplomatic solutions were made hastily and badly to end the wars in Ex-Yugoslavia as soon as possible, and often imposed upon signatories. Consequence was that plenty of old issues were not resolved but just put under the carpet. Or often (ab)used by politicians to gain political points and took attention from more important economic problems or their own faults..

Unless concentrated effort is made to solve them (and there are precedents in world) all those issues are going to resurface eventually.

Not to mention the Serbs joining the Orthodox Russians in East Ukraine, Croats joining the Catholics in the west, and substantial number of Moslems from all over the Balkan joining IS. (source: The Economist)

As long they go somewhere else to die I don't GaF, problem is that they are gonna return. 1st two groups might not have itching for terrorist action on home turf, but 3rd one is quite a problem. Village in Bosnia few months ago:

BTW, as it shows that madness knows no bounds, there are Croats on Pro-Rus and Serbs on Pro-Ukr side also.

Polish nationalists are also on both sides, apparently.

(sarcasm mode on)

Why does all of this sound so oddly familiar......packs bag...sigh.

(sarcasm mode off)

I don't think it was possible to resolve them then and I don't think it's possible now.

3 policemen KIA, 12 wounded, fighting still going on. Estimates say about about 50-70 terrorists.

So who is now oppressing poor innocent Albanians?

News what initially happened are scarce, but it looks like police had information about large gathering of armed people (which fitted with information they had that armed group from Kosovo crossed border) , tried to investigate/arrest them and was fired upon.

Still ongoing.

From local source...

One of the groups is headed by Mirsad Ndrecaj, known as Commander NATO with the Kosovo Liberation Army, and Bek Rizvaj, close associate of an influential person of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) party from Skopje.
The group spent few days in Slupcane, trying to attract the local residents on their side. The sources claimed that the local residents showed no interest in the offer.
The second group is headed by Sabit Geci from Kosovo’s Drenica, who according to unofficial information is in prison in Pristina and is loyal to Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hashim Thaci.
The groups of Geci and Commander NATO have been in Kumanovo for few days, while those, who ordered the actions, are from Macedonia.

It is round two of 2001. conflict with Albanians in Macedonia. They got almost all they wanted back then, so now OFC they want more.

It is an establishing of terrorist attack pattern that would lead to instability, intimidation of local Albanian inhabitants into cooperation, and potentially provoking Macedonian government to overplay their hand, in order to carve a piece of territory.

Worked before, why change it?

PS. Barely a month after Albanian prime minister talked about "One Albanian state where Albanians live". Color me not surprised.

5 dead, 30 wounded policemen.

Civilians evacuated from the area. Belgrade-Skoplje highway closed, as are all border crossings.

8 dead, more then 40 wounded, sporadic gunfire still going on. I also appears initial estimates about number of terrorists were too low, and some of them managed to escape police...

Meanwhile Kocho Danay, Albanian politician and leader of "Natural Albania movement" said it is all Macedonian government conspiracy and "Only solution is all Albanians living in same country and escaping Macedonian tyranny."
