Harold Jones
Figured this could use it's own thread. Based on this thread on the beta forum http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/23142-world-of-warships-currency-breakdown/page__p__665555&do=findComment&comment=665555WoWs is going to the now very common open beta as soft launch model. If you buy a pre-order bundle you'll get tokens (the CBT premium currency) equal to the amount in the bundle to use during the CBT. Then when the game goes into open beta the cbt stuff will be wiped and you'll get your full amount of doubloons added to your account. One change from previous open betas that I have mixed feelings about is that there won't be a wipe between Open Beta and Launch. So the gold you spend in Open Beta will be spent and you'll keep your progress. While not having to regrind trees at launch will be nice, I've always liked that WG didn't start charging for real until the game launched. Also it doesn't seem like there will be any account linkage during CBT or Open Beta so the gold you buy will only be spendable on WoWs and your xp and premium time will only be on WoWs. RETAC21
Am not thrilled about this change, just what is being tested then? Not the premium ships... and there will be a wipe for open beta so you are not saving much time effort in all.
FlyingCanOpener
I've got 18k in gold in Tanks sitting there. Why would I want to buy more to use in a beta? Lame.
Skywalkre
So... in short the game really launches in Open Beta (giving them less time to fix everything) but my unified account and all the good stuff I have from WoT, which I've been banking for months now in prep for WoWs, won't be unified with WoWs til it officially 'launches'? WG is doing a great job at killing all that enthusiasm I had for this title...
Harold Jones
The ship pre-orders have been upgraded to give CBT access to those who buy them. One of the things I used to like about WG is that they didn't monetize their beta tests. http://worldofwarships.com/en/news/common/pre-order-bundles-cbt-access/
Fritz
I don't think I'll be spending any cash on this game. I might use some gold what's left in my WoT account to buy extra slots but that's all.
Harold Jones
I bought the 3 ship bundle, I can see playing out the 3 months of premium it comes with. Which is about the amount of play I'd expect from a stand alone game for the same price.
Colin
I bought pre-release packages for the WOT and WOWP, not sure if I will for this, I like the game but I am not seeing a real benefit from buying any of these now, knowing that 15% off gold is not uncommon for WG and other ships will be offered as Premiums later. Not helped by having just recently bought a years Prem time for WOT Edited April 14, 2015 by Colin
Marek Tucan
Do not really have time to post much these days - for obvious reasons. Yes, the gold economy will not be joined after CBT for some time yet - hence the various names. The CBT for preorder ship packages is just a bonus on top - we are continuing to distribute accesses themselves for free (via various contests and giveaways). and we do not hide it - it is basically like sticking say Tetrarch as a bonus on top of a large gold package. Ship-wise, the main downside I'd say is in the packs is that they have two destroyers and one fast torpedo cruiser. While Yubari's playstyle is different enough, many people try to play it as another torp CL (in which role it fails due to few short-legged torpedoes), the difference between Sims and Greg is not immediately apparent. Harold Jones
I didn't pre-order WoWP because I could tell by the end of Alpha that it wasn't the game for me. I bought the triple pack in ships mostly for the 90 days premium, the ships themselves were a secondary consideration. I do like the Sims, it's fun gun fighter that can be a serious pain to hit. The torps are best saved for emergencies since they're slow to reload and are even shorter ranged than usual. At tier VII it will be a useful crew trainer for the US lines. I've only run the Yubari once and that was by accident, at tier IV i'd rather run the Iwaki alpha. I've run the Greg once or twice, not sure where it works best yet, might try playing AA escort and anti-DD linebacker with it.
Colin
the Erie will make a nice like Prem ship and a St Louis like Cruiser as part of the pre-release would interest me
sunday
Well, you the ones with free dock space could grind the Chester in preparation for the launching of US BBs...
Harold Jones
I was wrong about the Gremyasachy, it can be a beast if you can get and keep the guns on target, the mounts are extremely slow and actually feel worse than Japanese turrets. This can make dodging and shooting somewhat problematic but it takes damage pretty well so unlike a tier 5 Japanese destroyer you can afford a few hits to let the guns line up. The torps are adequate and I mostly save them for close in oh shit shots or for popping off around choke points, one hit will usually do for a tier Iv/V destroyer. I mostly use it as an early game destroyer hunter and for defending cap during late game. Being able to soak up a few hits really helps when it comes time to charge in and reset.
