Chris Werb Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 My brother used to fly these. I've sent him the link. Thank you!
Corinthian Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Airfix is alive and well for the past five years, purchased by Hornby. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airfix#Hornby_era Since then, it has been issuing kits that are quite popular for the market.
Chris Werb Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Unortunately they've included a mid upper turret - OK, that's not a bad thing, but MR2s didn't have them for very long - but left out the ECM mast.
Garth Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 The new Airfix stuff is pretty decent. Yes, soft, thick plastic with deep panel lines, but also good detailing and accuracy. Plus reasonably priced compared to everything but the HobbyBoss EZ-Build kits. So far I've built (in 1.72) their new fabric-wing Mk.1 Hurricane, Sea Hurri Mk.II, P-40B and Spitfire Mk.XIX (finished as a PR.19) and have been really pleased with the results. Particularly the Tomahawk, which (being, you know, accurate) looks weird enough sitting on the shelf next to my Academy AVG P-40B that I'm going to have to build another to replace it. I have a slew of their other new kits in the stash, including a couple Tiger Moths, a couple Gladiators, the TSR.2 and Blenheim Mk.1. I'm definitely looking forward to building their new Defiant and folding-wing Kate once they make it over to this side of the pond and my LHS. And really, really, really hoping that next year they 1) release a Beaufort and 2) start in on the Seafire line.
Josh Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 The weirdest Shakleton (ok, ONLY Shakleton) I ever saw was one in the process of restoration at the Pima air museum...it apparently had been tasked with ASW work and I believe had an extension above the fuselage that 'smelled' for diesel fumes. And google is my copilot: http://www.airport-data.com/images/aircraft/small/000/240/240678.jpg
