Mr King
Have there been any notable attacks on Leopard 2 tanks deployed in Afghanistan? I am sure every attack is notable to the crews, but I am meaning for example success in penetrating the crew compartment and along those lines. R011
Have there been any notable attacks on Leopard 2 tanks deployed in Afghanistan? I am sure every attack is notable to the crews, but I am meaning for example success in penetrating the crew compartment and along those lines. Apparently one Canadian Leopard 2 was badly damaged by an IED, possibly even beyond rebuilding. One crewman was injured suffering a broken hip. A report was cited in an Ottawa Citizen story as saying that three Leopard 1 were destroyed and fifteen damaged. Damaged could mean anything from off-road-for-a-day to nameplate-sent-to-depot-and-new-vehicle-assembled-around-it. http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=5ce3a1eb-89e6-4bc3-8746-b9028fcfc65a&k=77134http://o.canada.com/news/78433

R011
You're welcome. There seems to have been relatively few casualties amongst tank crewmen. Only one soldier from Lord Strathcona's Horse, the regiment that operated the tanks, is listed as having died in Afghanistan. IDK if he was a tank crewman at the time.
