Which means muzzle discipline is king. I got no problem with that...

Better than this one range I was at. It's a range that's run weirdly here for all the inside town newbie shooters. One of several rules is if you need to change lanes you have to have staff do it. I had a target system issue in my lane, so I alerted the range _flunky_ and he said move to the next lane. I started to move my shit by demonstrating to him that they were unloaded and clear and he reminded me of the rules and that he needed me to let him move my guns. I start to argue but decide "ok, fine, knock yourself out". So I stand there to let him move my guns and he frikken muzzles me with my own damn gun. <_< Hence range "flunky".

Are any of you certified as some kind of NRA instructor? I ask because perhaps an introductory session to firearms safety could be very useful, both for the ones that have not shot a gun in all their lives (like yours truly - I only have experience with airsoft devices), and for the ones that could be in the receiving end of a, God forbid, AD.

That will be fully covered for all the zero graders. The class presumes no prior experience with firearms. Finger off the trigger unless you is actually shooting. If you are unable to take instruction, you will be benched.

Guns are intended to be loaded, and safety devices utilized. I have a friend who blew his own leg off with a shotgun that had a fold of cloth work its way into the trigger guard. I am not impressed with 'My trigger finger is my safety!' Safety indeed begins between the ears, but use the aids as well.

For those who have never fired a gun, commit these four rules to heart, religiously. TATOO them somewhere if necessary.

1)ALWAYS treat a gun as if it is loaded

2) KEEP your finger OFF the trigger until ready to shoot

3)ALWAYS point the muzzle in a safe direction (Muzzle discipline)

4)ALWAYS be aware of what is beyond your target.

Eat, breathe, live, sleep these rules and the indoc at the site be much easier.

I am preparing my plea for clemency and release to have fun, if green lighted then I can come. Looks to be around $2000 USD which is $2600 CDN. Now showing up with a Sig clone in 7.62x25 and Type 97 might be fun, if only I could.

I have a question about safe directions - is it better to aim to the sky or to the ground? I vaguely recall that aiming to the sky could mean a AD could hurt someone far away, but aiming to hard ground could ricochet in case of AD and hit someone nearby.

Depending upon Uncle Sam, I may be able to make it. Will let you know. Also have long guns available on request. 556, 762, 6.8 is mine. ;)

My TactiBubba rig, v1.0...A WASR AK clone with Tapco folding stock and milsurp Romanian 'donkey dong' foregrip. Sight mount and optic pending. From the box, the windage is off a hair left; by holding about half the front sight width right, I was regularly ringing a steel plate at 100yd.

Thanks, Simon. I want to get the fiddly issues like zeroing done well before the class. They are cheap--if I look in the right place! One shop I visited offered me one for $25US!! I've seen them online for $10. I will probably get one when I order some other stuff.

I'm currently checking out mounts and trying to learn a bit about optics, before parting with $$.

If you lack an AK windage tool, I can arrange for one to be made available.

I'm surprised you can't find one at the local gunshows.

I got to the show late on the last day so I did a fast sweep to check items and general prices; a lot of tables were shutting down and I didn't have enough cash.

Gun show items can also be a bit pricy compared to online.

Bojan, that thought did occur to me--it is an AK, after all! But fine adjustment might be a bit tough. ;)

Actually, it was way it was done locally on crap guns during basic training - armorer would take a hammer (brass and plastic one, but still hammer), beat on front sight and most times it would actually fix issues of windage.

Is AK--no problem! Still, having paid good money for mine, I'll be a tad kinder. ;)

Point. Just as well I'm leaving my M1A at home. I'm way past 20, so that would get wearing fast.
