I'll see if I can cobble up a rail mount, I'll also take my camera as usual.Who is the sixth adressee, Mark?My next door neighbor who used to do SWAT work. Simon said get other folks on board so I got him in on the class.
BansheeOne Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Excellent. What weather should we expect?
Simon Tan Posted September 28, 2015 Author Posted September 28, 2015 He trains in my slot. Remember TN expects.
Simon Tan Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 Is he bringing his own bang stikk?
rmgill Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Of course. Why wouldn't he? He's not NYPD.
shep854 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 According to the weather-guessers at TWC, weather during the course is expected to be cloudy, low 40s to 60-ish F, 30% precip. Mon AM, 20% Tues.http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USWV0432:1:US
Fritz Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I feel like I'm trying to catch a cold (just in time). But I will NOT.
Simon Tan Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 Have layers, pack rain gear. It rains, you train. If you have a dump pouch bring it. A utility pouch with loose ammo is great for jamming mags on the line. Keep your mags jammed. You dont need a Camelbak.Collars. Keep brass out of your neck. Do not freak out even if you get brass down your shirt. It's only a light burn. Safe the weapon....let it hang. The range is hot. Do not clear continually. Do not clear unless told to and/or you are going off line and putting your rifle down.Do not allow you muzzle to hit the deck. That means checking it for obstruction.Jeez.......
Simon Tan Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 Which of you cats have had a rifle class?
rmgill Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I feel like I'm trying to catch a cold (just in time). But I will NOT.We'll pass you something that's going around the states so you can take something back with ya.
Fritz Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) Which of you cats have had a rifle class? Let me answer you this way: If you have a dump pouch bring it. A utility pouch with loose ammo is great for jamming mags on the line. Keep your mags jammed. I have no idea what this means. You dont need a Camelbak. I know what that is! I have one for hiking but I can just use the backpack on its own. The range is hot. I don't know what that means. Do not clear continually. I don't know what that means. Do not allow you muzzle to hit the deck. That means checking it for obstruction. OK that's clear enough. I feel like I'm trying to catch a cold (just in time). But I will NOT.We'll pass you something that's going around the states so you can take something back with ya. I've been living in NJ since 2001?.. Edited September 29, 2015 by Fritz
rmgill Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Mark has had numerous classes. I suspect that if E5M were there, he'd have have more. Otherwise, I think Mark has the longest time doing gun stuff in an official capacity between SWAT and DEA taskforce. I'm a rank amature so most of this is all new to me. I know some of what to expect from talking to folks and having seen range training on adjacent ranges. As to range practices, yeah that I'm good on. Don't muzzle the instructor or fellow classmates. Check. etc. Snacks in a thigh pocket are probably also a good idea for grabbing a quick boost of carbs and protein. Drink water between sessions of course. My eye pro is multi-layered because I usually wear just glasses at the range and haven't invested in a set of good RX rated goggles like Oakleys or Wiley X goggles. I do have a set of eye-pro goggles that I'll wear but opened them up on top and bottom so they vent better. Ear pro is a set of peltor active units. Should we bother with pistols or not? We talked about it and I rigged my gear for it. Even fabbed a holster for the FNP40 for the belt and added mag pouches for it. I have ammo set aside on the flat of ammo for it. I didn't get the backup irons for the FAL so it's just 3x scope. So probably not bringing that.I will bring an Enfield, a Jungle Carbine, some .303 brit (probably the RG55 that I have), associated web gear (P37, p58 and skeleton order P44 canvas) and the M1 Carbine and some .30 carbine. I'm apparently light on that right now and I don't want to dig too deeply into my soft nose ammo supply on that. I would like to get a round or two with that because it's my car gun (assuming it's not disruptive to the class of course).

Then try not to bring anything too virulent to us then please. :-P
rmgill Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 If Simon doesn't explain, I will once I get back from a meeting here at work.
Simon Tan Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 Which of you cats have had a rifle class? Let me answer you this way: If you have a dump pouch bring it. A utility pouch with loose ammo is great for jamming mags on the line. Keep your mags jammed. I have no idea what this means. A dump pouch is a pouch you wear on the back of your support (weak) side on your belt. It is used a place to dump your empty magazines so they don't go on the ground unless you are executing an emergency reload. A Utility pouch is a pouch on your webbing or belt that is not used to hold ammo or specific equipment. You dont need a Camelbak. I know what that is! I have one for hiking but I can just use the backpack on its own. The range is hot. I don't know what that means. A hot range means your weapons are loaded with the safeties on when they are on you. Do not clear continually. I don't know what that means. Do not unload and show your chamber is unloaded all the time. This happens on 'cold' ranges.
Simon Tan Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 BRING GLOVES. Nomex Aviators are what I use. Mechanix gloves are also good. Your sensitive hands will get all rubbed raw from manipulating the charging handle in a manly manner. Also, heavy firing will get your handguards warm.
rmgill Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) I'll add just to be sure, with hot ranges muzzle and trigger discipline become paramount. I expect Pat will be quite draconian with anyone who sweeps people with muzzles or has bad finger discipline. You wont need back up irons. In the case of the FAL the 3-9 variable on it has limited field of view. I've been setting it up for longer range shooting practice and as you said, DMR rifles are a bear on this course. Not that my Franken FAL is remotely accurized. Edited September 29, 2015 by rmgill
BansheeOne Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I feel like I'm trying to catch a cold (just in time). But I will NOT. I brought the flu from Strasbourg two weeks ago. Luckily I was done with it after a week except for a runny nose. Of course this week I developed a nasty dry cough. I think I passed a rarified strain to my colleague at the office, and he passed it back to me. I haven't forgotten weapons safety rules from military training. Also, my fingers are already raw from blind-manipulating my softair 416 while watching TV to build up some AR-specific muscle memory, which eventually made me put on gloves; I have some Hatch Operator knockoffs because the real thing is now apparently subject to ITAR ... Have a Swiss Eye Max Pro set which works reasonably well over my prescription glasses. I'll just bring the basic plastic disc earplugs we got at the Rheinmetall range recently (memo to self: firing 40 mm LV will shake them out). My knee/ellbow pads are of the general sports type for skating etc. which I got for paintball, but are totally sufficient for such activities. Fritz just advised that there's another tropical storm headed for the NOVA area this weekend. I'll pack my Bundeswehr tanker coverall. Now to decide between the matching boonie hat and the 2010 I&I TankNet basecap ...
Fritz Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) because the real thing is now apparently subject to ITAR ... Anything you want to procure here now is the time to let me know to order so it can come on time. * * * The only real problem with the rain is BB62 might be closed if it's serious...
