Corinthian Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 The 1/16 Tamiya Leo2A6 is just outrageously expensive. I won't shell out that much money for something that needs to still be built with plastic cement and doesn't even have the controls and other things to make it run out of the box. Accurate, yes. However, expensive. And it doesn't even shoot anything! So... My cousin-in-law has R/C cars and R/C 4x4s. Dad got some R/C cars. I like something a bit more different so I want R/C tank. Preferably larger than 1/24 scale (cousin's and dad's RCs are roughly 1/10 to 1/12 scale). I also want something that can shoot BBs and has real working suspension like the real thing. Plus enough battery life for 30 minutes play time or more with quick charging. Prefer modern tanks e.g. M1, Leo2, Challenger, and nothing German WW2 (Tiger?!? Meh... Although Jagdpanther would be nice but it doesn't have a turret). Ideas?
Corinthian Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 Anyone here can read it and say if it shoots and what its other specs are? http://www.ebay.com/itm/RC-Panzer-Leopard-2-A6-2-4GHz-M-1-16-R-S-Metallgetriebe-/321450725570?pt=RC_Modellbau&hash=item4ad7f4d0c2
FlyingCanOpener Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Shoots Airsoft BB's. BTW, IR Systems >>>>> Airsoft gun systems. I have 2 1/24 tanks (Japanese Type 90 and T-72M1) and the IR system is much more fun, as are the Tamiyas when they're kitted out with it. I'll eventually buy the Chieftain kit with IR setup as well.
Colin Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Henlong is fine if you want something to play with, go for the metal tracks and gears if you can.
Corinthian Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 Tamiyas are just not an option for me because of the expense. If I won the lottery for a zillion gold bullion bars, I would buy a platoon. But then I don't have the time to build it unless I can hire others to do that - which means added cost. Plus, the fact you'll have to glue bits together and such means there's a chance it'll just break apart when played too roughly - and what's the point of playing with a fragile R/C tank if you can't play with it roughly in the field? Building from scratch is out of the question also. I have no tools and no patience. It'll be a never ending project that'll just sap me of vital funding and time and I will become a much more bitter person than I already am - which is quite a feat actually because I figured I can't get any bitter, but you never know.... I've got an eye on this one. Not committing to it - mebbe next year. Price is nice - sort of. Battery sucks though - you tink I can replace it with something longer lasting? http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-4Ghz-Radio-RC-1-16-German-Leopard-2A6-Airsoft-Battle-Tank-w-Smoke-Sound-RTR/271676364102?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D3de7791e110b4855a3e38ee9b61ff571%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D20131003132420%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D261697078211&rt=nc
Corinthian Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 Looking at Henglong website. Most of it is WW2 German, but the 1/16 M41 looks so tempting....
Corinthian Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 Stuart: A partially built one with some upgrades cost USD880. That's not cheap. And that was the cheapest in the listing. Everything else is brand new at $$$$, one of which costs as much as my full suspension bike with upgrades (on the bike). Anyhow, further reading on that Henlong Leo2A6 I'm interested in seems to be a copy of sorts of the Tamiya 'cept it's RTR (ready to run) and much much cheaper. Upgrades will drive the cost up. I think the BB magazine/mechanism impedes the turret from making a 360-degree turn (it does 320). Higher end versions give out exhaust smoke (I wonder if it can create a heavy-ish smoke screen). Might tell a friend to order one for me when I get my funding sorted out. Will upgrade it (metal tracks with rubber pads, metal wheels and sprockets, etc) if I get the itch.
Colin Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 The smoke is more like exhaust smoke, I have the M41
Corinthian Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) How is the smoke generated? Is it smoke or steam? Was watching vids of the Henlong Leo2A6 all day yesterday. I so want one now. Can you post your M41? (is it featured in your blog?) M41 is one of my fave tanks, but for RC I'm after size (hence the Leo2A6).I see in the Henlong website they have an M1A2. OMG I want that too and will "superdetail" it. Edited December 22, 2014 by Corinthian
Stefan Fredriksson Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Seems smoke is from oil.Like scale electric trains had many moons ago (still do?)
Colin Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 yes a little oil on a heater, mine has died after awhile. If you have a smoker, you must have oil in it or it will burn out.
Corinthian Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 (edited) I told my friend to order the Leo2A6 I linked above for me. Will be paying for it next year. ETA: March 2015 - just in time for summer! Will bring it with me when I go to my cousin's retreat on a summer weekend and target his and dad's RC cars with the Leo's BB. SWEET!!!!!! hehehehe Is it possible to create a heavy-ish smokescreen with the smoke generator of sorts? Edited December 23, 2014 by Corinthian
Corinthian Posted December 24, 2014 Author Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) Tamiya is like LEGO apparently - overpriced everywhere. That's why the Chinese manufacturers are doing great in the hobby industry. My friend confirmed he's ordered it. ETA February 2015. Sweet! I'm looking to get the Clark TK-22somethingwhateveritis board that makes much more realistic sounds. Hook that baby up, install better speakers, and have my cousin watch as I take the Leo out of the van's rear compartment with the engine growling.... Yo guys, post your R/C tanks! Corinthian Posted December 24, 2014 Author Posted December 24, 2014 OMG... http://www.henglongtoys.net/eng/ShowProduct.aspx?ID=1384 I shall try to acquire this in 2016 - or after I've upgraded the Leo2A6 with metal running gear and engine
Corinthian Posted December 24, 2014 Author Posted December 24, 2014 OMG Challenger 2 my love! I only have a heart when a Challenger tank presents itself.... BTW, does the CR2 have a suspension system similar to the Japanese Type 10? Maybe that's why that RC CR2 sits low. Otherwise, yeah, it's too low. I'd still love to have one and fix that suspension.
MiloMorai Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Guy bought this Abrams at WalMart for $80.
Corinthian Posted December 25, 2014 Author Posted December 25, 2014 Bob Griffin was building a 1/16 or 1/6 RC of a Chieftain based on the Tamiya kit with LOTS of accurizing. Last I heard, he put the project on hold. The only thing that surpasses my love for the Challenger tanks is a Chieftain Mk11 with Stillbrew armour and TOGS. Milo: OMG ONLY EIGHTY DOLLARS?!?!!!!???!?!?!?!?! I WANT.
Corinthian Posted December 25, 2014 Author Posted December 25, 2014 Watch the Mother Abrams protect its baby Sherman....

Corinthian Posted December 26, 2014 Author Posted December 26, 2014 Milo: you and Stuart had the same post. Proof that grate minds tink alike hehehehe
BP Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Shoots Airsoft BB's. BTW, IR Systems >>>>> Airsoft gun systems. Entertainment value:Hitting somebody with an invisible IR beam = 0Shooting your buddy square in the nuts as he walks up the steps in your front yard and your new RC tank goes tophat out of the shrubs and fires a BB = priceless
