Stuart Galbraith Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Oh thanks, that will be interesting. I like Wards take on things.
JWB Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Things are tough all over.... The navy has two aircraft carriers – and may soon have no way to refuel them (msn.com)
Stuart Galbraith Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 More more cherry on the shitcake that was the 2010 defence review. Cameron should beat himself to death with his shoes.

Stuart Galbraith Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 No man, its like, completely appropriate. Keith Moon told me so.

Stuart Galbraith Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 You wait till we team up, and steam for Pearl Harbour.

futon Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 The first JASDF F-35B unit is planned to be stood up in 2024. 6 were procured in 2020, 2 in 2021, and 4 in 2022, for 12 so far. 8 more the current budget request. If passed without reduction of the 8 (current weak yen not helping), then 20 for a full unit. A handful probably will be able to land and take off when a UK carrier visits in 2025 which will be nice to see.
Stuart Galbraith Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 In a logical world they would be exchanging F35 qualified pilots with the RAF to get deck experience. For another, we could do with the pilots.
futon Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Japan's been a bit short on pilot training as well and so squeezing out a few more trained pilots by getting training in Italy in their new trainer aircraft. Speaking of which, Italty is also an F-35B user with new carriers along the way, cross decking acoss the whole lot and exchanges throughout, why not?

At the 2010 defence review they ran down the RAF training with the withdrawl of the Harrier force, and stupidly didnt recognise it wouldnt be easy to ramp it up again. They are flailing around trying to fix that at the moment. I know they have at least one carrier, something like 12 aircraft? I remember there was soemthing of a dispute, and arguments between the Italian Air force, that owned the jets, and the Navy, that owned the carrier, was creating something of an impasse as far as going to sea. So yes, probably potential there for cross decking, if they havent sorted it out of course.
