Time for another selection of damaged and destroyed. Anyone else thinking West Germany might not have been the rollover everyone was predicting?

Is it just me, or is there a serious issue with the T-64 when its either hit, or takes a near hit from HE. I understand a burning tank having its ammo go up; but the amount of T-64's that have been blown literally to bits is horrifying.

Some here have already questioned the quality of the welds on certain models. Could there also be general lack of maintenance?.

Either way, I'm having some difficulty in understanding what is happening to the NATO bogyman of the Cold War.

TIA

Harkonnen mentioned that ERA kits were expired. Also, back in the 70s, it was decided to develop T-80 instead of using T-64s due to chassis not coping well. This has been pointed out by people who have served on T-64/72/80.

Maybe it was a bogeyman in the mid 1970s, but we are in 2014...

Was unaware of the chassis issues, that actually makes sense now.

More carnage. These are from a pro Russian Twitter account. Have had limited success in locating Russian equipment in action for obvious reasons. Captions deleted because of excessive propaganda content.

Apparently there was a gathering of captured weapons for display. Yet more flashbacks, this time to Hackett's THIRD WORLD WAR. Except his was captured NATO stuff.

I assume this is a display organised by rebels?

I don't even see any sign of a T-72M in the picture :P

AFAIK Hungary operate(s/d) the following versions: T-72 (Russian, Czech, Polish origin), T-72A/T-72AV (Belorussian), T-72M (Polish), T-72M1 (Polish). Could it be any of the listed?

If you look at the turret front you see under the SGLs a rim of the extra turret armour ("Dolly Parton") so it's not a T-72M. It could still be a T-72M1 but the tank has anti-radiation lining and a 3rd stowage box (left rear of turret) which is never present on the -M1. It's a late-production T-72A, delivered by Belarus.

Russian Army/Russian Rebel T-72B3 turret that has been blown off its hull during fighting in Ukraine. This is a bit more interesting than most recent KO'd tank pics since (IIRC), the T-72B3 and the T-90A are the two tanks the Russian Army will standardize on going forward. This pic, and others that will likely appear, confirms that this upgraded T-72 is still a T-72...

Minus the rifle and BMP, this gentleman wouldn't look too out of place walking around our local Walmart...
