<snip>As an aside, China often claim that they fought the Japs alone. This is true in the context that they were fighting the Japs alone "on Chinese soil". The Chinese forces did not win, but neither did they surrender the country like much of Europe, or like the Allies did in Singapore. And the Chinese militaries and civilian population paid a very heavy price in that war. In fact, they were fighting Japan's invasion before Hitler invaded Europe. This glory is due to all Chinese people, KMT, CCP etc. They did not say that the other Allies did not play a role in defeating Japan.

Well, I'm sure Chennault — of Flying Tigers (AVG) fame — would have a word to say on that statement. As would the wings and groups of the Fourteenth US Air Force.

China and Russia (SU) were two countries in WW2 who invaded but did not capitulate.

Were there any other countries in the same situation?

Several countries were invaded - & overrun - but did not capitulate. They were overrun & completely occupied, but did not surrender. Their governments fled rather than surrender, with whatever parts of their armed forces could escape, & established themselves abroad. The Polish government relocated twice, to France & then the UK. London had quite a collection of governments in exile.

And again South Africa:

From the Economist:

A country that symbolises human rights and freedom is turning its back on both.

Yea no kidding..

The ruling party, the ANC (African National Congress) has a list of their publications called "Umrabulo"

http://www.anc.org.za/list.php?t=Umrabulo

The special edition issued on August 17th from that list is this PDF.

http://www.anc.org.za/docs/umrabulo/2015/ngc_disc_docsy.pdf

And on document page 161 (PDF page 163) has the following..

Among the anti-American stuff, check out item 32..

The whole page is CCP lip service brought by CCP money made obvious by item 30. This is the kind of negative influences that will continue to rise in the world as China becomes more economically strong.

You can even include the Chindits in Burma.

President Xi did make enough reference to the fact that China had a lot of help fighting the Japanese in his V-Day speech. The CPC (or CCP as I always wrongly refer to them) has even "rehabilitated" former KMT soldiers and are beginning to recognise the KMT's role in the War of Resistance. In all fairness, they are damping down some of the rhetoric.

Tibet stuff if time is available. Both videos are of the in-exile Prime Minister of Tibet. First is a Q&A in the US with Chinese students. Second is a Q&A news program in India. Both are 2012 and 2011 respectively so a little old but informative.

In addition to Fiery Cross Reef, Gaven Reef, Hughes Reef, and Johnson South Reef, land reclamation at Mischief Reef and is said to have started within the last few months. It's further east than the other four and 250 kilometers west of the coast of Palawan.

More pictures of Mischief Reef in the link below. The website below has some nice close up photos of various reclamation locations.

So if this turns into a 3rd airstrip, maybe something about 1,500 meters.

Obama and Xi meet next week. They have lots of stuff on the table.

Japan to give more second hand patrol ships following the 6 boats promised last year.

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/defence/japan-promises-ships-to-vietnam-amid-south-china-sea-fears/articleshow/48973492.cms

About the promised 6 vessels, it seems only one was delivered so far just last month. The 6 are nothing big, just 600-800 tons each.

New China coast guard patrol ship probably getting ready to be deployed for patrols at the Senkaku islands. The Haijing 2901. It's bigger and heavier than a Burke class destroyer.. they must really be thinking that they can ram Japanese coast guard ships away from the Senkakus.
