Why would any additional treaties be necessary if China simply recognized Taiwan's sovereignty?

Strannik Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 Interesting - China quite bluntly supported Palestinians and characterized Israel as a colonizer and that the Palestinians have a right to resistance under international law, "including armed struggle", which he "in this context, is distinguished from acts of terrorism".
Strannik Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 Yes, of course. The point is China usually doesn't speak so forcefully on the issues that don't seriously affect them.

Let's put it this way: arrival of Americans have not helped. as "the 1900 U.S. census identified 37,656 residents of full or partial Native Hawaiian ancestry". Note i am not blaming white settlers for that (as they were also people of their time) just pointing out natives were hardly in a position to resist.

There seems to be a struggle for influence there between China and the US, and it's position along Chinese SLOC is critical.

Quote Top nuclear envoys of U.S., China discuss N.K. behavior, Russia ties in video talks: State Dept. By Song Sang-ho WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 (Yonhap) -- The top nuclear envoys of the United States and China have held video talks to discuss North Korea's "destabilizing" behavior and its deepening military cooperation with Russia, the State Department said Friday. U.S. Senior Official for North Korea Jung Pak and her Chinese counterpart, Liu Xiaoming, held the talks on Wednesday, amid growing concerns over Pyongyang's continued weapons tests and its tough rhetoric against South Korea. Their discussions were regarding the North's "increasingly destabilizing and escalatory" behavior, the department said in a release, as concerns persisted that Pyongyang could engage in major provocations ahead of South Korea's parliamentary elections in April and the U.S. presidential vote in November. "The two sides discussed the need to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the importance of returning to dialogue and diplomacy," it said. "They also discussed the growing military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK, which is in violation of numerous U.N. Security Council resolutions." DPRK stands for the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. During the meeting, Pak also stressed the need for all U.N. member states to fulfill their obligations and fully implement U.N. sanctions regime on the North, according to the department. https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20240224000200315
