FlyingCanOpener Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 It's pretty well done... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2jNP2CkzQw It is god damn well done and still better than 99 % of what Hollywood can churn out. Now I recall. The Tony was the one that recommended this series. Thanks! Also me talking about it on Facebook and commenting on how well the mechanical designs were--despite being nothing like what might work in reality.

rmgill Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) Also me talking about it on Facebook and commenting on how well the mechanical designs were--despite being nothing like what might work in reality.Well, Hollywood likes to throw things up on the screen that transform and grow mass and volume seemingly out of no-where, blimps that speed along at 200 knots, and bullets/firearms that defy the laws of physics. What's a little difference of artificial gravity plates, blasters, wave motion guns and other things that rely upon high/large matter energy conversion but otherwise conform to speeds and mass as would make sense? Materials science and new energy conversion methods can make up a lot in tech differences. That sort of hand-wavium at least doesn't stand out. Edited February 4, 2015 by rmgill
FlyingCanOpener Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Actually I was referring to more the concept of Dive Bombers in Space launching off of catapults from triple-stacked flat topped Aircraft Carriers in Space attacking the Yamato from whites-in-their-eyes range Rule of Cool still applies. Regardless, it's probably one of the best space fighter engagements I've seen in anime or movies in a while.
rmgill Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 The Gundam setting does a really good job of reconciling the distance/range issue with regards to detection. They creators posit the discovery of a functions of physics for a sort of fusion reactor, they discover Minovski particles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Century_technology#The_Minovsky_particle The Minovsky particle[edit] According to the official guide of Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Century and Gundam Officials, the Minovsky Physics Society, while working on the reactor, encountered a strange electromagneticwave effect in U.C.0065 within the Minovsky-Ionesco reactor that could not be explained by conventional physics. Within the next few years, they identified the cause: a new elementary particle generated by the helium-3 reaction on the inner wall of the reactor, which was named the Minovsky particle (ミノフスキー粒子 Minofusukī ryūshi?[/size]) or "M" particle. The Minovsky particle has near-zero rest mass - though, like any particle, its mass increases to reflect its potential or kinetic energy- and can carry either a positive or negative electrical charge. When scattered in open space or in the air, the repulsive forces between charged Minovsky particles cause them to spontaneously align into a regular cubic lattice structure called an I-field. An I-field lattice will slowly expand and scatter into space, however, after dense interference it will take approximately 29 days before the region can support normal electromagnetic communication again. The main use of the Minovsky particle was in combat and communication. When the Minovsky particle is spread in large numbers in the open air or in open space, the particles disrupt low-frequency electromagnetic radiation, such as microwaves and radio waves. The Minovsky particle also interferes with the operations of electronic circuitry and destroys unprotected circuits due to the particles' high electrical charge which act like a continuous electromagnetic pulse on metal objects. Because of the way Minovsky particles react with other types of radiation, radar systems and long-range wireless communication systems become useless, infra-red signals are defracted and their accuracy decreases, and visible light is fogged. This became known as the "Minovsky Effect". The disruption of electromagnetic radiation is due to the small lattice of the I-field creating fringes that long wavelengths cannot penetrate, and that diffract wavelengths that have similar distance with the fringes. This diffraction and polarization process disrupts the electromagnetic waves.%5B21%5D The only counter measure to the "M" particle in the series was to install bulky and expensive shielding on all electronic equipment, but only to counteract the effect it had on electronic circuitry. While this could be done for space ships and naval ships, this ruled out the use of precision guided weapons, such as guided missiles. Due to this, the military use of Minovsky particles ushered in a new era of close-range combat. This is the primary reason for the birth of the Zeon close-combat weapon: the mobile suit.%5B22%5D Of course it's all hand wavy gobble-de-gook, but it fits and provides a setting for why the close range fighting. I've never dug into the Yamato back tech to see why some of their technology mechanism work. Leiji Matsumoto being more romantic in his setting may not have done so.
mnm Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Hang on a minute, is there a market for models of this stuff ? Son, I say son, where have you been?http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/693/0/1Macross Model KitsGundam Model KitsSpace Battleship Yamato KitsThere were scores if not hundreds kits for this stuff out when I was 10 and going to a now long defunct hobby store in Stone Mountain, Ga.Just look around ebay...http://www.ebay.com/sch/Macross-/16514/i.htmlHoly mackerel sashimi ! Trouble is I'm told tells me Japan itself is an extremely difficult market to get into, never without a local partner and even then. But I'll definitely make a note.

JasonJ Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 AKB48, huge deal. Of over a 1000 songs, one has a spot in this thread. I was shocked the first time I saw it.
Corinthian Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Haven't some former members of that group graduated to, ah, JAV...? Or at least topless/full frontal gravure? Somewhat listen-able tune there. Cute. Nothing shocking IMO (then again, I've been watching JAVs, so...) Not as good in synchronized worm-dancing ability as the K-Pops though!

Cute. Nothing shocking IMO (then again, I've been watching JAVs, so...) Not as good in synchronized worm-dancing ability as the K-Pops though! The music itself is pretty good. But the skirt and blazer outfits indicate high school uniforms. And the group's major audience is high school age girls. Aside from its imagery, I just looked up the ages of the girls that are in the video, most were over 18 at the time. But a handful were 17 or 16. One was 13. The 13 year old is in the foamy bath tube scene. One could say that the foamy bathtub covers more skin than the full shots of them in underwear. But there is a theme to the song, the bathtub isn't isolated. Even if all the members in the video were over 18, I would still question it because of the theme of song combined with stylized high school uniforms. But a few being under 18 makes it more questionable to me. Granted I am conservative when it comes to it and I know it, so it leaves me with mixed feelings.
Corinthian Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Aye. No argument with wot you said. I'd question the 13y.o. being in the bathtub scene....
JasonJ Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 This is more to my liking http://youtu.be/Dt9NfTfyoyE
Corinthian Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 I was watching that AKB48 video again and a couple of things: 1) The singer who dances solo after singing early in the video looks silly with those moves, I was saying "WHOA! WHOA! Easy girl! Don't go ninja all over the place!" 2) The sleepwear/lingerie scene where they're all in bed, it looks straight out of anime 3) They got the kitten attitude right in the cosplay cat scene in the vid It IS entertaining not because of the girls in skimpy clothes, but because of the way it was made. And that song is a damned ear worm I tell you, hehehehe
Corinthian Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Hello Kitty Breast Implants if you feel frontally kawaii challenged.

I'll put it up if I find it. One more of Perfume http://youtu.be/t3_bJICRd5Y

Mr King Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 This is, and I hate to use the term because it has been corrupted, but pretty progressive, Bravo for Japan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opD9zJiQ6to
JasonJ Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 This is, and I hate to use the term because it has been corrupted, but pretty progressive, Bravo for Japan. Japan has always been quite realistic when it came to sex and handles it pragmatically more so than idealistically. On the flip side, many Japanese hardly ever have sex at all or so it has been said. I think that is true based on my experience thus far.
Corinthian Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 Dis one for Tomas... Can't see it. PM via FB perhaps?
