urbanoid Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Re Urbanoid: Could not find the original thread were someone recommended the new Space Battleship Yamato 2199 series, the one aired in 2012. Just saw it and it's pretty, pretty good. It's difficult nowadays to see a ship's XO job so well treated, for instance. I haven't seen that one yet, though I also had been recommended to watch. Maybe later, when I have more free time (and less of other animes to watch).
rmgill Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 It's pretty well done...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2jNP2CkzQw
urbanoid Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Somehow it reminded me about: The Heavens twisted. Normal star patterns were distorted and covered asthe battle cruiser Derflinger, leading the human fleet, began to emergefrom hyperspace. Derflinger was followed by Kaiser and Kaiserin, thelatest supermonitors Bismarck and Tirpitz, the heavy cruisersScharnhorst, Gneisenau, Scheer and Hipper. A parsec away materialized asimilar fleet, containing Musashi and Yamato, Kongo, Akagi, Kaga, Soryuand Hiryu. In between, led by escorts, emerged the combined transportfleet. Corinthian Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 They have antiship missiles but use guns instead for dogfighting.... Well, that's anime logic and perfect for this thread!
Mikel2 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 They have antiship missiles but use guns instead for dogfighting.... Well, that's anime logic and perfect for this thread! They must have learned it from Hollywood. The bad guys have a death ray that can destroy entire planets, but it all ends in a sword fight...
sunday Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Was Ringo so noob to write Derfflinger with only one "f"? It's not that awesome that way!
Corinthian Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Mikel2: Or a knife fight. Or even better - with fists!

And unguided missles that have to be delivered by a steep dive. Banzai!
Corinthian Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Notice that the fighters look like Stukas, too.
Mike Steele Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Notice that the fighters look like Stukas, too. There are Me-262, also, and Tomcats! No, F-4's
Corinthian Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 There are Me-262, also, and Tomcats! Best anime'd version of the F-14: A guy I know once built a 1/72 scale model of that one and posed it alongside a 1/72 scale model of an VF-84 F-14A that he also built. Size of both were almost the same. So awesome.
TonyE Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 It's pretty well done... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2jNP2CkzQw It is god damn well done and still better than 99 % of what Hollywood can churn out.
rmgill Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 WWII aircraft have a certain appeal. Look at the Mellinium Falcon and B-29 remote gun turrets.
sunday Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I thought Millenium Falcon turrets were inspired by the side turrets of PB4Y-2...

urbanoid Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I did - I turned it off. There is one song from KPP that I like, especially as Monogatari series AMV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYkkhehAxWQ
JasonJ Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I did - I turned it off. There is one song from KPP that I like, especially as Monogatari series AMV: For many, it's really random and nonsense upon first seeing it including myself but there is a theme to it. After watching a few times, one might notice it. It's actually pretty good. For the AMV, despite all the anti-censoring I rant on about with China, I think there is one part I would censor-delete in there.
rmgill Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I thought Millenium Falcon turrets were inspired by the side turrets of PB4Y-2... Perhaps in part, but quad turrets and remote control implies something else. The gun turrets on bombers is definitely an aspect.
rmgill Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) And what I REALLY like about 2199 (what bits I've seen on youtube so far), the flavor is exactly in line with the original series. They just refined things, got better with the animation and kinematics and depth of the details. Even the music is in line. I don't have ANY Of the "Why did you change that? Or this? Or this other thing?" Very true to form. Edited February 3, 2015 by rmgill

TonyE Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Anime scale models is HUGE in Japan, i`m currently building a fleet of Yamato 2199 small scale ships from Bandai as a gift to my sisters son. Fit and quality is top notch btw.

Son, I say son, where have you been? http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/693/0/1 Macross Model Kits Gundam Model Kits Space Battleship Yamato Kits There were scores if not hundreds kits for this stuff out when I was 10 and going to a now long defunct hobby store in Stone Mountain, Ga. Just look around ebay...http://www.ebay.com/sch/Macross-/16514/i.html Edited February 3, 2015 by rmgill
Corinthian Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Definitely big. Gundam kits ranging from basic construction sets (i.e., snap-tite) to "ultra grade" (or whatever they call their top of the line) kits of various scales and price ranges (from el cheapo to "holy shit wot?!?"). Not just in Japan, but anywhere where mecha anime has been introduced and became popular.
