Ron was a M48A2 tanker with the 2nd Infantry Division (Pentomic) at Fort Benning during the early 1960s. This was the five tank company, 89 tank battalion which was organic to the Pentomic Division. Ron's posts here on TankNet (and on the older Tanker's Forum) were gentlemanly and reflected his experiences.

Ron was a participant in several of the early I&Is and was a very friendly comrade. Most notable was the Washiongton I&I in 2003 where he had King Sargent barf all over his rental car on the way back from Aberdeen then had M1 Buck barf all over his hotel room after the beer drinking that night.

Ron fought a long battle with mouth cancer, throat cancer, and finally lung cancer.

Ron was a respected member of staff and always was a voice for moderation in staff discussions.

Goodbye, Old Tanker, I'll tip a glass to you tonight.

King and I spent a couple of days with him and his future wife on our way back from the Ft. Knox I&I. He was a good guy, very hospitable, and a true New Englander in his manners and tastes.

He had just finished a grueling battle with cancer when we saw him; radiation burns were readily evident on his neck and upper chest. Big C had to fight hard to get him.

Godspeed, Ron.

I met Ron during the Littlefield's I&I. Not only a gentleman but also someone who was worth listening too when he took the time to speak or post. I still remember his experiences in hurried practice amphibious assaults during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Bye Old Tanker.
