How have we not had more talk about this game!? I've heard nothing but amazing things about it. It also has the most kick ass trailers I've seen for a game in a LONG time. ;)

A buddy of mine took some vacation time off to play it. When I first asked him about it he said, "fuck Skyrim." I was caught off guard quite a bit as he had always enjoyed Skyrim and I had no idea why he'd mention it. He went on to describe how everything about this game from the open world to the quests is light years beyond Skyrim. W3 has several zones which are each about as large as Skyrim and extremely detailed. What appear to be simple quests in W3 turn out to be rather intricate with meaningful choices (I've actually heard the weakest questline in the game is the main one as it's rather straightforward). He also highly commended the writing as being quite a step up above Skyrim.

I'm going to have to upgrade my PC before I can get this but I can't wait. Nothing but positive commentary from everyone I've talked to.

some rumours on Nexus they will release a modding engine for this game like Skyrim has the creation kit

Installed, started and like. Have only played for about 15-20 minutes, but I get good vibrations.

I am below minimum specs with my Intel Core i5 750 at 2,67 Ghz, but above average with 16 GB memory and Radeon R9 200, so far it runs smoothly with medium- to above medium-settings.

Crashed out to desktop 2 times during my first short session, but it was not preceeded by any slow-down, and start-up of game is painless, so we'll see where it lands.

Will run it through Game Booster next time I play.

The first one had excellent writing and is definitely on the gritty side compared to basically every other RPG I've played. The downsides are a rather simplistic and repetitive combat system and huge jumps in difficulty during boss fights.

I'm not sure whether or not this can be called a downside but it's one of the few games where I almost think it's too long. Not that it's drawn out, but that there's so much to do you can effectively get lost in it all (the first one isn't an open world so you're also constantly trudging over the same limited areas but this is nowhere near as bad as what happened in DA2). I actually haven't finished it! I'm at 92h played on it and have only completed 5 of 7 chapters. It's a game, with the stories the way they play out (and the first one is also more story driven than combat driven), that I prefer to only play when I can sit down over several days to knock a chapter(s) out at once.

Yuck. Crashes every time right after first in-game short-film. Harpya-attack at Vesemir. Right out to desktop 4 times in a row.

And this is no matter what I do before, ride straight up there, harrass villagers or go clean beach up.

EDIT: Found some possible fixes in settings, such as not use full-screen, and most particular set fps to unlimited. Can not try until after weekend though. Geralt will have to do without me for a few more days...

I had stability improvements by editing the garbage collection settings higher, also allowing it to use more of my installed memory.

Still have an occasional drop, but usually only after many hour long sessions. Both are probably a good idea if you have 16Gb RAM and a 3-4GB GPU. Not sure what your card has though as you state a series, not a card model.

At the moment stable enough to play 3 hours straight without crashes, slow downs etc, not even gpu fan speeds up with current settings (4gb gpu).

Will keep that memory stuff in mind if I run into trouble again.

I'm tempted. My machine can't handle it now (which is why I've never grabbed it) but with those revolutionary (the performance given the price) new nVidia cards coming out soon I'll finally be building a new machine.

Still, I haven't finished number one yet!

Yeah I also only got about halfway through 1 and never even played 2. But 3 got so much accolade that I just have to get it and $25 is a good deal I think.

Yeah, at this point it's been so long I don't know if I could keep playing 1 and have any idea what's going on but... starting over, given the length of it, doesn't sound like fun.

I've been told W3 has an option at the beginning where if you haven't played any of the games (and thus don't have a character to import because apparently the choices you made influence what happens in W3 which is really cool) there's a mini-story that it runs you through and you get to pick the big choices from the first two games so your character has some flavor/background.

Still, I'm a terrible completionist and would probably be kicking myself for not finishing the first two first. :P

I cared about these things for Mass Effect (where sadly your epic choices ended up being completely immaterial) but the Witcher world never really got me so involved so I don't care about continuity.

The wound, it's still... raw...

I'm on my second playthrough of witcher 3 now. It's a nice game and I like it a lot, althought it is sort of frustrating that you have to do some quests in a certain order since other quests will remove persons needed from the game...

I've only put about half an hour into it but the first thing that practically slapped me in the face was how every character felt like a real person and not a bland generic fantasy cookie-cutter stereotype*.
