Colin Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Hunt the kidnappers down and let the people do terrible things to them and their families, tribe.
Simon Tan Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 If you aren't ready to pile up bodies like firewood, you will not be able to defeat Boko Haram. They are the Men with Guns. The only thing that is scarier than that is Men with Even More and Bigger Guns with Even More Ruthlessness. Be ready slaughter entire madrassas.

Colin Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 We need a African version of the Gurkha's, with western officers and log support.
Ivanhoe Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Maybe this is a theater made for an air assault unit. Recon assets, attack helos to find and fix, airmobile infantry to close and kill. Of course, there's no point in doing so unless the ROE is kill on sight rather than catch and release.
Ivanhoe Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Prize on those girls would definitely skyrocket immediately and a whole new industry would be born. And that is called paying the Dane-geld; But we've proved it again and again,That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld You never get rid of the Dane.
Sikkiyn Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Actually all we need to do is pay for good mercenary outfits, with regional experience, and let them have at it. Provide them with intelligence and medical support, and enjoy a bag of popcorn while they work.It may not influence the current situation, but there will be a grand thinning of the BH herd, and a lot of others in the process. The key here is you don't get your own hands dirty, and you solve many issues.
Panzermann Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Ain't Chad's special squirrel forces for hire? The government does not call it like that of course. But with some incentive they could be convinced to help a fellow african state against international terrorismn.
sunday Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Difficult for the FF Legion to intervene in a country that is part of the African Anglosphere.
Sikkiyn Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Ain't Chad's special squirrel forces for hire? The government does not call it like that of course. But with some incentive they could be convinced to help a fellow african state against international terrorismn. There are professional contractors, with regional experience, who could meld into the area, gleam information, and act if the situation presented itself, or simply report back and fade away. Of course the contract would have to be specific with what is required, type of payment and support that can be expected, etc. It would be more cost effective and less damaging than having your own natives boots on the ground; just stay away from the Spicer types.
T19 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 just have them find, track and report. Let drones do the wet work, have the ghosts do clean up, gather intel perfect solution.
rmgill Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 We need a African version of the Gurkha's, with western officers and log support. What's wrong with using the regular old form of Gurkha from Nepal?
Heirophant Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 We need a African version of the Gurkha's, with western officers and log support. What's wrong with using the regular old form of Gurkha from Nepal? They won't blend in, and so will completely lack legitimacy. Africans have to be seen to be applying the lead medicine, not Asians.

They just want some assholes face-shot.
Ivanhoe Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 Let the Chinese do it with the locals. I was thinking about the Chinese, since they have a big military and generally don't GAS about public opinion. I wonder though if they'd go do battle with Muslim insurgents, given their own battles at home.

So when you say play nice or we send in the XXXXXX, they will get that gut turning feel. Frankly the only way you are going to bring these dirtbags to heel is to either go massively at them in a big hurry and kill everyone of them, or have an African army wipe out every BH they find and their family/village, basically pull a Vlad on them.
rmgill Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Are there any good sepoy stock in Africa? Zulus? The one pattern I've seen is cattle farming highlanders tend towards the better than average sepoy stock culturally speaking...
Noble713 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Let the Chinese do it with the locals. I was thinking about the Chinese, since they have a big military and generally don't GAS about public opinion. I wonder though if they'd go do battle with Muslim insurgents, given their own battles at home. Back when I was an econ undergrad, I presented a similar plan to one of my professors. Basically, the US and China should conspire to exploit the resources of the developing world. The US would provide the global logistics network, counter-insurgency experience, and C4ISR. The Chinese, with their huge population, excess male manpower, and general heavy-handedness, would provide endless brigades of garrison troops. Splitting the spoils should also keep the two greatest powers of the 21st century from fighting each other and generally making a mess of things. At the same time, I was studying Mandarin and, if I ever found my way into any spec ops training, conceived of a potential future employment track as a strike-breaker/enforcer for the Chinese in Africa. I assumed China's Neo-Colonialism of the Dark Continent would eventually encounter pushback from the locals, which could be suppressed with American security contractors, with the advantage of plausible deniability for the Chinese if any operations went tits up. "What? They weren't working for us! They're American! Must be CIA!". Alas, life has so far turned out a bit differently for me. Meanwhile, Erik Prince is taking my idea and running with it. It sucks not having the investment capital to realize your dreams.
swerve Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Are there any good sepoy stock in Africa? Zulus? The one pattern I've seen is cattle farming highlanders tend towards the better than average sepoy stock culturally speaking...Everybody, given good training & leadership. Look at how well Tanganyikans did under German command in WW1, for example. Ran rings around British colonial troops.

South Koreans.
T19 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 There was a time when any EU army could have done that.... but with ROE and polices.... yes find some locals You also need someone who will disrespect them buy burying them in pig fat or something that hits at there core beliefs. Its not politically correct but back in the day a Cpl of guys tied to the guns when then fired so there was never a proper burial, so they could not go to heaven works wonders. Or cut off their pony tails, or bury them face down... those things are designed to strike fear... that's what these idiots need
Ken Estes Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) These measures have not worked very well for us westerners thus far. South Koreans abused locals and their own troops, did little patrolling and did not venture out at night in VN. Much overestimated by most accounts. Edited May 14, 2014 by Ken Estes
