The whole Ukrainian govt, i.e. President, important Ministers, as many of the senior govt officials as possible should go mobile. Make them a moving target, pack them all into helos, and fly them to cities not under direct fighting like Lutsk or some other city. The Russians attacked Lviv to deny the use of that city to the govt should it have to move when Kyiv falls. As long as Zelenskky and his ministers avoid capture or death, the russians will have fits trying to put in a puppet govt. Some city near the Polish border would work for them. Just avoid capture by the Russians at all cost.

This is what I don't understand: why isn't ever single BTG in theater moving somewhere? Why wasn't it an attempt from every possible axis? The US DoD, says only 1/3 of the BTGs are committed. Now I do not trust that figure, but none the less, the results are a little unimpressive?

Very little of it makes sense. It seems like there actually wasn't a plan to attack till the last minute, and the shift from posturing to actually invading wasn't so seamless.

RESULTS OF THE SECOND DAY OF THE RUSSIAN OPERATION

...

By the evening of February 25, DPR units had broken through the defenses of of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) and the nationalist battalions, advanced up to 25 km and reached Volnovakha.

The LPR armed forces advanced up to 21 km and captured Tryohizbenka.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces surrendered Starobelsk and Severodonets without a fight. The UAF are reportedly preparing evacuation from Ugledar in the DPR. According to several reports, Zelensky ordered some UAF units to leave the frontlines near the DPR and LPR and to move to Kiev and Kharkiv to help hold these directions. This information may be the reason of the withdrawal of the UAF from Starobelsk and Severodonetsk in the LPR.

...

The Russian units that occupied Severodonetsk allowed the Ukrainian units to conduct a military evacuation from the city on trucks without heavy military equipment.

In the late evening of February 25, there were fightings in the Kharkiv industrial zone on the southeastern outskirts of the city. The Russian Air Force destroyed an UAF fuel and lubrication base in the city’s industrial zone. The Kharkiv Tank Factory was set on fire.

...

By midnight, fightings near Kherson and Kharkiv subsided. Fighting continued in Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Chernihiv regions.
Sporadic fire exchanges have been breaking out in Melitopol. On February 25, a full-fledged offensive on Zaporizhia and Mykolaiv has not yet succeeded with Russian forces.

...

On the night of February 26, active firing of anti-aircraft guns by the Ukrainian armed forces was observed in Odessa.

...

A missile strike hit the Starokonstantinov airfield in Khmelnitsky Oblast, where the Ukrainian Bayraktar TB2 UAVs purchased from Turkey are based.

...

Near Kiev, the offensive halted at the Irpen-Bucha line, and fighting resumed by midnight. The use of Kalibr missiles was reported. The Ukrainian command prepares Kiev to defend itself and deploys artillery and military equipment deep into the city. In recent hours, gunfire has been heard in many areas of the city, including the center. There is video evidence showing that the uncontrolled distribution of weapons has led to a sharp increase in criminal activity in the city. Ukrainian security forces are attempting to disarm the gangs whenever possible, to the detriment of the city’s defense capabilities.

...

Throughout February 25, despite advances, Russian units continued to suffer losses, especially to rear columns. Several artillery and supply columns were destroyed in the Kharkov and Kherson regions and on the approaches to Kiev. All of the destroyed units moved in the tactical depths of the advancing Russian forces.

Apparently, the reason for this combative approach lies in the order to act as if they are in neutral or even friendly territory occupied by the “enemy”.

It seems that the Russian command falsely perceives 2022 as 2014, forgetting about the eight years of what they themselves label as nationalist propaganda. Today, the majority of Ukraine’s population treats the Russians as enemies. The exceptions are the southeastern, southern, and partially southwestern regions of the country.

Russian army firing into civilian buildings:

It is AD missile (see smoke trail) - probably failed shot, as they are at least 30 years old. By the way resilience of Soviet AD elements still surviving 30 years of service is remarkable, Pro-Ukrainian Su-27 was shot down over Kiev by their own AD  - it means they still have functioning radar(s) and missile(s), but not integrated AD network.

Pragmatic for himself

Sure like every dictator, but still he avoided Spain turning Communist, avoided taking Spain in WW2, lead Spain into NATO and died from old age.

He probably figured that Ukraine would capitulate, and that if they didnt, they would collapse fairly quickly. One solid kick and the whole rotten edifice will fall down, to coin a phrase.

Well, he is supposedly committing part of the second echelon I heard on Sky News. It does seem if there is any method to this, its find, and fix, and the second echelon will outmanoeuvre. Or at least, perhaps that is just the excuse they will use for any screw ups. They must have had enough ISR capability to figure out where the Ukrainians would be defending, or at least, so I would have assumed.

Narrowly. He was actually talking over with Hitler joining with them against the British in 1940.

Spain didnt join NATO till 1982. Despite American lobbying, I dont think the British, French or West Germans would have tolerated a Fascist in NATO. Ironically, considering all the horseshit coming ou the Kremlin at the time to our being Fascists.

KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was asked to evacuate Kyiv at the behest of the U.S. government but turned down the offer.

Zelenskyy said in response: “The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride,” according to a senior American intelligence official with direct knowledge of the conversation, who described Zelenskyy as upbeat.

Invading Russian forces closed in on Ukraine’s capital on Saturday, in an apparent encircling movement after a barrage of airstrikes on cities and military bases around the country.

Meanwhile, a second Russian Ilyushin Il-76 military transport plane was shot down near Bila Tserkva, 50 miles (85 kilometers) south of Kyiv, according to two American officials with direct knowledge of conditions on the ground in Ukraine.

On Friday, Ukraine’s military said it had shot down a Russian military transport plane with paratroopers on board.

According to a statement from the military’s General Staff, the first Il-76 heavy transport plane was shot down near Vasylkiv, a city 25 miles south of Kyiv. The Russian military has not commented on either incident so far, and the reports could not be immediately verified.

There was actually a MiG29 attacking helicopters and Su-25 during early stages of Gostomel airport fighting.. there is a video with MiG29 firing two R73 very low almost hitting some houses.. definitely not DCS...

It's very blurry but it looks like Su-27 to me. Missiles are launched so low that one of them hits the ground or a building. Doesn't show what it was chasing, probably a helicopter?

He avoided ww2 because his demands to Hitler couldnt be achived then, not that he didnt want to join Hitler. And at the end he was facist and butcher of his own people
