To be fair, they're paratroopers; they're supposed to be surrounded.

Bravado aside, part of the value of such an air landing is the motivation it provides to the relief force.

True.

There are further reports that it has fallen again, or at least have the defenders pinned so it can't be used as an airport. Reports very confused, but there is\was a epic scrap going on.

Also reports of armoured units approaching Kiev.

...The fascist government has no support and will be rounded up by brave Russian paratroopers.

Ukrainian government, just like Russian, or Yugoslavian in 1999. is problematic on many levels but it is not really fascist.

It you use twatter as a source you are a follower, nothing more.

If they're shipping in an air regiment then Ukrainian AD must be down, hard.

And any indirect fire would give an landing  IL-76 trouble.

How's those units on the Transiberian working out for you Bojan.  You want me to let you know when they get past Moscow? 🤗

I will exploit all sources I find, yes, including Twitter. I'm not censoring you,and I refuse to be moderated by you also. Are we clear yet?

Ukraine already has metric shitloads of Iglas, and exported them in 2017. last time.

What about high altitude systems?

I am not moderating you, just noting that you either do research or are a follower. Like ChAES/CNPP hysterics. You could go to the primary source for that but that would actually require you to learn language, so it is hard, better to follow someone on twatter.

S-300, Buk, probably older ones all operational. While dated it is not exactly "throw away" material, especially that Russian AF is also not top of the line material.

Antonovsky Bridge in Kherson. Only the rear tank seems to have been KO'd - you can see at TC in one of them doing his thing. Looks like a Company-sized unit oriented 'Action Left' to me and still in the fight.

Welcome back, dammit.

I hate to be repetitive... but Iraq War.

Protestors protested and that changed nothing, as with every single one anti-war protest, including ones I was at in the '90. :(

True.

Well sometimes they quit when /their guy/ gets elected and get "fatigued."  Doesn't look like no one is running against Putin anytime soon.

Are Russian troops mostly conscripts? Or have they gotten away with their conscript system

In a typical Russian brigade structure the unit is capable of generating three 'Battle Groups'. One battle group will be more or less fully professional and the other two will have conscripts in it.

In Syria the professional battle group did most of the fighting (and dieing) with the other two battle groups not being used as much. In Ukraine, i'm sure that given the pace of operations, the conscript battle groups would have to be used also and therefore take casualties.

So, roughly a third of Russian units are professionally equiped.

And you are right, but that is in a country where the right to protest is enshrined. In Russia it is not, so when people risk prosecution, they are very, very pissed off.

Uh oh.....  no one's picking up the phone.

At around 21:00, Ukraine lost contact with Zmiinyi Island. Based on available info, the island has been captured by Russian Forces. The fate of Ukrainian garrison is unknown. - Ukrainian Border Guard Service

Certainly for one that looks that old. What's the betting survived the Nazis?
