Ukrainian oligarch offers bounty for capture of Russian 'saboteurs'

Igor Kolomoisky, a Ukrainian politician and energy tycoon, offers $10,000 of own money for each agent caught and separate rewards for their weaponry

A pro-Kiev oligarch offered a $10,000 (£6,000) bounty on Thursday for the capture of any Russian "saboteur" and promised another half-million hryvnia (£27,000) to the national guardsmen who successfully repelled an attack by pro-Russian militia last night, killing three.

Igor Kolomoisky, an energy tycoon who was appointed governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region in eastern Ukraine last month, also offered rewards for handing in weapons belonging to insurgents: $1,000 for each machine gun turned in to the authorities, $1,500 for every heavy machine gun and $2,000 for a grenade launcher.

Citation is geniune. Photo is fake.

Well, it only means Putin was correct when calling Kolomoysky "unique rascal": he not only created his image of "most patriotic man of Ukraine" but also saved money on actually posting the adverts (not mentioning he returned his investments in Nazi volunteers with great profit by looting state funds he became in control of when appointed Governor)

Sorry, Roman. What I meant was a militia is a pseudo military organisation and thus can only exist an operate with an organisation that includes a hierarchy.

Makhno's outfit was not very democratic - he even installed his wife as the head of secret police. But the Spanish anarchist militias in the civil war did elect field commanders etc. and I think even vote on participation in campaigns.

And how did that work out for them in the end?

Little known fact is that initially Red Army commanders were elected by soldiers, not appointed - only later this practice was dropped as units proved to de dysfunctional.

Sure, Russian assistant :)

P.S. Meanwhile standup comedian Zelensky won presidential elections second tour with 73,2% votes according to exit polls (vs. 25,3% for current President oligarch Poroshenko) https://www.bfm.ru/news/412520

Jewish Comedian Zelensky Wins Ukranian Presidential Election by Landslide

After an exit poll from Ukraine's presidential election showed comedian Volodymyr Zelensky winning with 73 percent of the vote against incumbent Petro Poroshenko, Poroshenko on Sunday conceded he had been soundly defeated.

He said he would be leaving office next month, but that he did not plan to quit politics altogether.

Zelensky was born in 1978 to Jewish parents in Krivyi Rih, a predominantly Russian-speaking industrial city in southern Ukraine. He left to pursue a career in show business; in 2003, he and two friends from his hometown founded the film studio Kvartal95 in the capital, Kiev.

The studio became enormously successful throughout the post-Soviet world, and several of Zelensky’s Kvartal95 colleagues now play key roles in his campaign team.

The comedian would thus become Ukraine’s first Jewish president, making his country the only one outside of Israel to have both a Jewish president and prime minister; Volodymyr Groysman took the latter post in April 2016.

His rival Poroshenko has fought to integrate the country with the European Union and NATO, while strengthening the military which is fighting Kremlin-backed separatists in the east of the country.

Pushing the use of the Ukrainian language and instrumental in establishing a new independent Orthodox church, the 53-year-old confectionary magnate casts himself as the man to prevent Ukraine again becoming a Russian vassal state.

But reforms crucial to keep foreign aid flowing have been patchy. Conflict in the eastern Donbass region has killed 13,000 people in five years and rumbles on despite Poroshenko's promise to end it within weeks.

Frustration over low living standards and pervasive corruption has left the door open for Zelensky.

Zelensky has tapped into the anti-establishment mood, though his inexperience makes Western officials and foreign investors wary and skeptics question his fitness to be a wartime commander-in-chief.

Inviting comparisons with U.S. President Donald Trump and Italy's Five-Star movement, his campaign has relied heavily on social media and comedy gigs of jokes, sketches and song-and-dance routines that poke fun at his political rivals.

Kolomoisky wins! Now the purge will come of the SBU and armed forces.

Taking into account Kolomoysky ethnicity....

Maazeltov! Azov and Right Sector will be thrilled.

I do not think so: Kolomoysky was sponsoring Nazis right from the begining. Unlike real German Nazis, UkroNazis are too greedy - as Ukraine is business, everything is about money there. See ethnic Armenian (="black" for Slavic "aryans") Minister of Interrior Avakov, former Kharkov organised crime boss, controling "Azov", and his long-time rival Kharkov mayor Kerness fwo is ethnic Jew, Saakashvilli who is Georgian etc.

Russia tests Ukraine's new president with passports for breakaway regionshttps://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/apr/24/russia-passports-ukrainians-breakaway-regions-decree-ukraineThey saved the key point for the last paragraph in the article:

The decision to hand out passports will be seen as a game-changer, and mirrors policies in the breakaway republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Russia justified its military intervention in a 2008 war with Georgia, and subsequent recognition of the territories as independent states, in part because of the large number of Russian passport holders in the region.
Issuing Russian passports in eastern Urkaine clearly lays the groundwork for open military invasion, as in Georgia in 2008, but I don't think there are firm plans to invade. It might be of more use to Russian interests to have the Ukrainian government worry about the potential for a Russian invasion.

More like annexation than open war. I don't see what unfreezing the conflict would get Russia at this point, unless there was a desire for a "short, victorious war" and I don't think Putin is that stupid.
