FlyingCanOpener Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Tuccy, can we pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease have Historical battles involving the Cold War tanks? I don't want all of the crazy prototypes involved either--just the actual tanks in service (or some close enough to call it in service). Here's what I was thinking: Round 1: The slightly lower-tier brouhaha Dirty Commies: T-34-85, T-44, IS-3, Type-62, Type 59, WZ-131 NATO: Cromwell, Comet, Centurion Mk. 1, M24 Chaffee, M26 Pershing, M46 Patton, AMX-13/75 Round 2: The Top Tier Blowout Dirty Commies: T-54, T-62A, IS-3, IS-8, IS-4, Type-62, Type-59, WZ-131NATO: Leopard 1, Centurion Mk 7/1, Conqueror, M103, M46, M48, M60, AMX-13/75 The question I have is how would this going to be balanced out. At the lower tier fight the NATO forces don't have the alpha to compete with the IS-3--especially if they give it the BL-9. However, apart from that the Patton will absolutely chew up the opposition and the Pershing and Centurion are a good counter to the T-44 and Type 59. At the top tier, this is interesting. The Soviets have the T-62A and T-54--both of which are tough mediums. Then given the only Tier 10 heavy of the matchup, and it seems to be unbalanced for them. However, the Leopard, Centurion Mk 7, M48 and M60 are all tossing APCR by default with good ROF, so I guess that balances out. Then the Tier 9 heavies have the Tier 10 guns with a better ROF than the IS-4 has itself. Any thoughts/suggestions? Come on Tuccy, get this done.
Marek Tucan Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Well I tried organising few historical battles. Did not work in the end as players were lazy buggers Though the most modern we did was Korea. Heck, people were not even able often to stick to such basic rules as "stock turret, 75mm gun" for the Chaffee etc... AFAIK the Historical mode development went through some iterations, as even surveys shown that there are several distinct approaches to that among the players... Ranging from "simple Axis vs Allies" to "ultra hardcore set modules and no HP" From last remarks in Q+A it seems it may come in 2014, we'll see how will it look and how many people will jump in. IIRC in War Thunder only about 10% of playerbase tried the historical mode and less than that play regurarily, in WoT few people play companies... Will see how the new 7/42 will run... And how the Historical mode development goes.
jwduquette1 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I think its a great idea and have suggested it a couple times on the WoT forums. It's typically met with some positive responses. It does seem like it would be possible through only slight tweaking of the 7/42 system to invoke at least historical platoon and company OoBs.
Marek Tucan Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Forget historical OOBs, too small scale for that Now what will be needed would be some other limit so that, for example, it doesn't throw in 15 Tigers vs. 15 T-34/76 And that while being able to set up matches quickly and reliably enough. IOW it needs to be easy-to-use enough to attract enough players.IOW not too hardcore.

But whatever.
Marek Tucan Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Well, if talking about company TOE I always take it as a monolithic unit - that will obviously be impossible to achieve in this case, it will always be a ragtag group of light, medium and heavy tanks and TDs (and arty possibly), with all sorts of conditions. Sorry if I misunderstood.
jwduquette1 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) I suppose you would have to combine an event with 7/42 pseudo-historical matches in order to have a large enough pool of players choosing to drive very specific tanks around the same time frame. For example: Korean War'ish...Have a weekend Event to encourage folks to drive say Easy-8's and T34/85's and participate in public-7/42 battles. Give them say 1.5 Credits or 2X EXP or some such if they drive either and they participate in a Korean War'ish 7/42 Match Or Arab-Israelis -- Event where players are encourage to participate in 7/42 games while driving either T-54, Centurion 7/1, T-62 or M48. Or hypothetical USSR attack on W Germany -- various combos of tanks\TD possible... Indian-Pakistani War...Centurions vs, M46 Pattons Edited October 30, 2013 by jwduquette1
