That is a awesome M-60 Starship pic by the way Dave.

I found it on FB, thought I'd post it because there aren't many A2 photos with action figures present, plus these action figures are handling ammo.

I thought it was because it showed the obligatory can of Coke on the fender.

Didnt they thin out the hull glacis on T62, to make up the increased weight from the longer hull?

No, it is actually 2mm thicker then T-54/55 glacis, 102 vs 100mm. Only early T-54 had thicker glacis, 120mm.

You caught me out, part of the endorsement deal.

New or classic? ;)

But yeah, this thread was worthless without the Starship. :)

Starships pre-dated aspartame and NutraSweet! We're talking the Tab era, baby.

Hell yeah! A2!

But are they static or moveable? :o

interesting camo on that A2 - it's a picture I've seen before. Neither the old OD nor the later MERDC camo - it appears to be just 2 colour, which is pretty unusual for USAREUR at that time.

It may have been an early MERDC scheme.

From Wiki's 'Military Camouflage' article:

An M901 with MERDC winter verdant camouflage scheme.

Nice pics Ducky. Is this a prototype of the Europanzer I think it was called? Or a Leopard prototype?

I believe that's just a straight Leopard without stowage boxes and bustle rack.

TCGST first time "GO", or you just magnified the pic to see the Leopard painted on the turret? :P

I've always wanted to try this with MBT...sadly it is not practiced in FDF although our T-55M's, T-72M1's and Leopard 2A4&A6's would be capable of doing it... I've swam with BMP-2 but it is notthe same (although it was one of the most scariest moment of my tankers carrier so far)!

With the Leopard 1 or 2 you should try (re)starting the engine, when submerged. That is... interesting. :D

And the Leopard Prototype on display a few posts up is one of the final prototypes before the serial production model was finalised. Can be easily recognised by the differing engine grills. In production models those were cast and in late production welded, but in a different way.

Well the air intake for the engine is rerouted through the turret. When standing in the tube on the TC hatch or sitting inside and starting it produces a curious sucking noise. And the air sucked away from the turret interior gives an indescribable weird feeling. After the engine started up it is still some serious airflow making your coveralls flutter.

In the summer we sometimes turned the engine to take air from the crew compartment with all hatches open to cool down. No air condition installed on the A4 mark.

I can Imagine!

The usage of "wading mode" is also know stunt in FDF to cool down the crew. Most probably taught to our training cadre by German crews in Leopard familiarization training :)
