I don't remember the news outlets I was watching claiming 2 months. That could have simply been a reporter with a bad source. The Hunter Biden laptop and dossier story... I've actually seen retractions from major news outlets acknowledging they got those wrong. How often does Fox do that? How much as Fox been reporting on the Dominion trial with all the documents from Fox hosts highlighting they thought it was all BS but still peddled it? Some of you need to get off this high horse that the other side is the only one doing bad shit. There are plenty of YT clips from what most of you would call left-leaning news/comedy outlets highlight the brazenly out of touch and incorrect reporting done by Fox. The bigger issue is the viewers who are driving this. Fox was damaged from this lawsuit? Sure... in that they'll probably lost viewers to OAN or whatever other challengers out there who will continue to spin (spin, not report) the news the way they want them to. Their credibility wasn't damaged... because they didn't really have any to begin with (just like CNN or other outlets, regardless of leaning, that push the fringe viewpoints). Let's see... was Fidel Castro a Cuban leader or a Cuban dictator? Now tell what NYT, WP, CBS, ABC, MSNBC etc use as classification?

You are being manipulated by the media. CNN, NYT, WP, Reuters , AP etc classify Fidel Castro often as a Cuban Leader , so legitimise him. Instead if we go to Pinochet or other non leftist aligned dictators they are often called dictators . The Chilean Dictator, etc. A Leader is someone there is no discussion about its legitimacy. Ivanhoe Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 https://www.kwtx.com/2023/05/23/councilman-found-passed-out-car-with-crack-pipe-police-say/ Quote CRANSTON, R. I. (WJAR) – Pressure is growing for a Rhode Island city councilman to resign after police released body camera video showing him passed out in his car with a crack pipe in his hand. . Quote Reilly allegedly told police he had had a relapse after being clean for 13 years, and that he’d been through a bad divorce. He’s now going through the judicial system. Hopkins said Reilly has brought up his struggles with addiction in past city council meetings. Hard to imagine that the stresses of being a city councilman in a podunk town like Rhode Island (calling RI a state is an insult to real states!) could be all that bad.
Ivanhoe Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 https://freebeacon.com/latest-news/indiana-man-charged-with-felony-intimidation-of-jim-banks/ Quote Aaron L. Thompson, 34, allegedly called Banks’s office eight times in early April and left several threatening messages, according to a probable cause filing obtained by the Indiana Capital Chronicle. "Here’s the choice. Your daughters grow up without their dad or you grow old without your daughters," the Fort Wayne man said. "Boom, boom you pick." Thompson told Banks he owned a gun and said he hoped Banks would die in a car accident or have "his brains blown-out."
DB Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 He was intoxicated... You know, I've never once threatened to kill a man's daughters because I strongly disagreed with his political position. I've been drunk too. Why is it even suggested that being drunk is any sort of mitigation?
Ssnake Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 Fun fact, "having been drunk" leads to a more severe penalty in the German military code since it's considered an act of deliberation.
DB Posted June 7, 2023 Posted June 7, 2023 I feel the same way about drunk driving homicides. You chose to go to a bar in your car. I don't care whether your decision to go home in the car when bladdered is a result of impaired judgement, you made the initial choice when sober.

Eons ago we sailors had a conversation that if you had to seek medical care due to a sunburn you be brought up on charges of damaging government property. Never looked into it, but a few of the officers thought "it sounds right."

JWB Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 Talk about the Freudian slip! He should have just said the feds don't run the cities.
rmgill Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 But the feds ARE running the cities. The Obama DOJ and their consent decrees are Very much running those police departments which is ruining the cities.

Definitely could have easily countered with that. He dropped the ball and it's a bad clip... but also because the question itself wasn't that good. He could have easily countered with "we can both help Ukraine and address issues at home". He should have pushed back on some of the qualifiers in the statement as well that were just incorrect. - The economy has degraded? Ehh... that's complicated and a lot of markers are fine. What is still a major issue for the average American is inflation. I would love for any politician to finally address this issue... in particular since this was the biggest concern voters had back in '22. - Crime has gone up exponentially? Umm... what? Violent crime, especially murder, saw a rise during COVID but overall violent crime is still way better than even just fifteen years ago. - Most folks can't find Ukraine on the map... Ok, if folks are that stupid we should care what they have to say about foreign policy? If they're that clueless then there's no way they're going to understand the concerns with letting Ukraine fall and our role and responsibilities as part of NATO. Edited July 15, 2023 by Skywalkre

Violent crime tends to track for all of the other types of crime. If homicide is up so will to the other lesser types. You think they are down because reporting of them is down. Its hard to hide a homicide. But a burglary or car break in can be written down as a vandalism (who cares about that?). This is the pattern that was used in Atlanta to make things seem better for the olympics. Talk to some cops. Look around. 21 hours ago, Skywalkre said: - Most folks can't find Ukraine on the map... It might point to what is important to their lives as voters. Thats a real issue. What’s the alternative Sky? Install some DNC superdelegates to choose for them since they’re not qualified? How about a clear policy direction for the US’s foreign policy? What’s the US objective in the Crimea?

What’s the US objective in the Crimea? worse yet, in my little alcove folks have told their stories in the local 'rants and raves' facebook pages: some folks have confronted perps carrying out 'non violent offenses' like burglary or B/E or trying to steal catalytic converters from their cars, and invariably the perps threaten assault or point knives or guns at the civvies. But hey, no one got hurt so no crime is done, and the local DAs don't care because it's 'restorative justice'.

It's possible that could be the case. Even then, when looking at homicides (and our most solid data is still only up through '21... with COVID still going strong) our currents rates are still better than they were for several decades up through the late 90s. Leaders have to lead, sometime... and that's so rare these days.
Ivanhoe Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 Let's not forget the fact that some municipalities have data-massaged their way out of a statistical violent crime wave. Battery reduced to assault, battery/maiming reduced to ADW, etc. Time series of data across the lockdowns are going to be a bit messed up, as well. The local city with a high violent crime rate has much lower than average murders YTD, which I think is mostly because the bangers sorted out their turf battles during the lockdown when the PD couldn't be bothered.
