The news that a U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant was arrested for plotting terror attacks was midlevel news in a busy news week. But if he had successfully executed any one of the many plots he envisioned, we would awaken the next day in a much more frightened, much more divided, much more suspicious country. Externally, he was the kind of man that is ubiquitous in the greater Washington area: To outward appearances, the 49-year-old lieutenant was a suburban father with a desk job supplying Coast Guard ships, who was glimpsed by neighbors coming and going in uniform or walking his dogs with his wife.

A 49 y/o lieutenant? LTCDR perhaps?? Still, it sounds like he was passed over and marking time until separation.

The USCG does have an OCS program that does result in some older junior officers than you might expect but a 49 yr old LT is probably pushing it even for them.

He was USMC and ARNG before he was USCG. So it sounds like services were passing the buck.

Conspiracy theorist Jacob Wohl apparently faked a death threat against himself during a recent trip to Minneapolis, a report said.

The conservative activist — who was in the city attempting to dig up dirt on Rep. Ilan Omar — provided cops with a Twitter message that contained the alleged threat, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

Old judgement? 1973? Ironic that the most Catholic country in Europe just voted to legalize abortion, and the US is heading back to the 1950s.

 

Also the Alabama makes that a Felony punishable by 10 years in prison.

The potential impact of a great many laws are not balanced. One could do the same thing and toss out all of the paternity laws and such. The man has no say, the baby is born and then he has all the responsibility.

 

Rights and responsibilities are all part of the same balance. Toss one out and maximize the other how's it supposed to work?

 

 

Also what was it Obama said, that which works in Texas may not work in Chicago? OR something like that? Seems like an open door for abortion to be as restricted as gun rights are in places like New Jersey or Massachusetts.

Well the right to an abortion as _not_ written in the bill of rights isn't incorporated against the states is it?

And if the right to privacy is the angle for how/why abortion SHOULD be a right, then there must be an application of that same right to privacy to one's property and tools for defending one's life.

Generally speaking, I can see an easy angle for a right of self determination argument involved with the abortion argument. That relates to one's right to one's life. That's where ALL of our rights originate and why an object doesn't haver rights but why people DO. RKBA relates to self defense of that life both individually AND collectively.

If you deny the right to defend that right but allow some smaller right to what goes on in one's uterus, but only in that context, it seems like a rather gap filled view of rights.

Both are about access to tools to exercise those rights.

This has become so pervasive that men, who have declared themselves to be female, regularly compete athletically as if they were a woman, and it is accepted as a biological fact.
