From Jim Geraghtys Morning Jolt column:

The news that a U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant was arrested for plotting terror attacks was midlevel news in a busy news week. But if he had successfully executed any one of the many plots he envisioned, we would awaken the next day in a much more frightened, much more divided, much more suspicious country. Externally, he was the kind of man that is ubiquitous in the greater Washington area: To outward appearances, the 49-year-old lieutenant was a suburban father with a desk job supplying Coast Guard ships, who was glimpsed by neighbors coming and going in uniform or walking his dogs with his wife.

A 49 y/o lieutenant? LTCDR perhaps?? Still, it sounds like he was passed over and marking time until separation.

The USCG does have an OCS program that does result in some older junior officers than you might expect but a 49 yr old LT is probably pushing it even for them.

He was USMC and ARNG before he was USCG. So it sounds like services were passing the buck.

"Plotting". Don't they mean fantasizing? There's a difference you know. Even if he's allegedly not a leftist and therefore evil up to 11. Did he actually set things in motion, made preparations other than having guns and ammo?

Conspiracy theorist Jacob Wohl apparently faked a death threat against himself during a recent trip to Minneapolis, a report said.

The conservative activist — who was in the city attempting to dig up dirt on Rep. Ilan Omar — provided cops with a Twitter message that contained the alleged threat, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

“I hope you fu–in know that if bump into you in Dinkytown or anywhere else in my city I’m going shoot you and sh– on your fu–ing bodies,” read a message from the account @Drakehomes612.

Idiots abound on both sides. https://hotair.com/archives/2019/05/12/texas-legislator-accuses-scientist-sorcery-measles-outbreaks-continue-rise/ But he is from Houston, and I think he has snorted too much bayou water.

Actually, Rep. Strickland is from the Ft Worth area. He must have caught some of the ill humours that fill there air, there.

Never saw that one coming.

Yeah I didn't understand how people thought money from that fundraiser was going to get the wall built, at the time I wondered if I just did not know enough about it.

AL and GA GOP has gone full batshit on abortion.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/05/09/republicans-have-stopped-pretending-abortion/?utm_term=.5364e16fe80a

Banning all Abortions after six weeks when many women wouldn't even know they were pregnant. Life sentences for doctors performing an Abortion. 10 years for women getting abortion otherwise LEGALLY in another state. No exceptions for rape or incest.

I am not Pro Abortion by any means. Neither am I Pro Life as I do not believe HUMAN life begins at conception. Abortion is unsavory only made controversial by extremists on both sides. These laws are extreme.

It would be interesting to see a study on how many GoFundMe pages are outright scams.

I think they are trying to make it a new case at the Us supreme Court to then have the opportunity to overturn that old judgement.

Well or they have a plan for a thriving travel bureau offering cheap flights to Mexico and Canada or bus trips out of state.

Old judgement? 1973? Ironic that the most Catholic country in Europe just voted to legalize abortion, and the US is heading back to the 1950s.

Also the Alabama makes that a Felony punishable by 10 years in prison.

Paul, take all your arguments about guns and gun control and gun rights. Make them about abortion. Read them back to yourself.

It's sort of like those felony charges for having a 30 round magazine in DC or Massachusetts. All very reasonable. Obama even justified that sort of batshit crazy. What'd he say? What works in some rural part of the US doesn't work in Chicago...

Also, I've seen it floated around social media by many of my woke friends. You're a man. You're not allowed to have an opinion on abortion. So shut it.

Non sequitur. Avoid the issue and point to some other issue. So you agree these laws are extreme then?

Sure saying "you are a man your opinion is invalid" is histrionics. But think about it...the potential impacts of these laws are not balanced.

Yes, but the pro-abortion side has been saying for years that anyone who lacks a vagina can't say anything.

The potential impact of a great many laws are not balanced. One could do the same thing and toss out all of the paternity laws and such. The man has no say, the baby is born and then he has all the responsibility.

Rights and responsibilities are all part of the same balance. Toss one out and maximize the other how's it supposed to work?

Also what was it Obama said, that which works in Texas may not work in Chicago? OR something like that? Seems like an open door for abortion to be as restricted as gun rights are in places like New Jersey or Massachusetts.

Abortion should be a states issue, and the Federal government should butt out. 10th Amendment should rule here. Pro or Con, it should be up to the states, not some black robed idiot.

Well it all comes down to what you believe doesn't it. "Gun ownership should be a states issue, and the Federal Government should butt out".

Well the right to an abortion as _not_ written in the bill of rights isn't incorporated against the states is it?

And if the right to privacy is the angle for how/why abortion SHOULD be a right, then there must be an application of that same right to privacy to one's property and tools for defending one's life.

Generally speaking, I can see an easy angle for a right of self determination argument involved with the abortion argument. That relates to one's right to one's life. That's where ALL of our rights originate and why an object doesn't haver rights but why people DO. RKBA relates to self defense of that life both individually AND collectively.

If you deny the right to defend that right but allow some smaller right to what goes on in one's uterus, but only in that context, it seems like a rather gap filled view of rights.

Both are about access to tools to exercise those rights.

This entire abortion thing, look, there's a simple solution. It has now been deemed that a man, or a woman, can declare themselves to be of the opposite gender. This has become so pervasive that men, who have declared themselves to be female, regularly compete athletically as if they were a woman, and it is accepted as a biological fact. The solution is for women, who don't want to become pregnant, to declare themselves men. Then biologically speaking they'll be just as male as all the rest of the men in the world.
