I hope 15 seconds for 30+km is a gross underestimate... this is APFSDS territory.

I'd guess at 45-60 seconds *at least*.

Q: Will we be looking at realistic engagement distances and times?

A: Yes, realistic distances, though shells will have a tuned up speed (like 3-4 times higher to make game a little more fast-paced). Shells will also have their dispersion ellipse as in real life. You will have to predict the position of impact of your salvo, though the game will show you the exact dispersion ellipse of that zone. After first 3 salvoes, you dispersion ellipse will become minimal, which represents specification of target parameters

So as you progress with the aircraft carrier do you upgrade the air wings as well?

It's only logical (yes, just been watching the Star Trek :)) - though the exact mechanism of course is not public yet.

 

By the way, the cruiser is CL-1 Chester, pre-WWI scout cruiser.

So will only ships that could have been fitted with radar get it? Is visible range going to be a function of the height of the lookout on each ship that does not have radar?

Tough one, esp. since basically you could slap radar on anyhthing ;) Would need a lot of game design and balance tests yet to keep it "real" and, at the same time, enough fun. We shall see on this one.

That's one of the big challenges (as shown in the "upgrade" blog post) - generally properly matching ships despite all the improvements - throwing a superdreadnaught with all mid WWII bells and whistles among the flock of Dreadnaughts would probably mean an easy win etc.

 

We will see how exactly this will be solved, I can easily see how other games solved such things but every solution has its downsides.
