Bit disturbing to think that this is probably at least the 3rd or 4th study of its kind that I can recall being publicized in the last year or so.

"The Food and Agriculture Organization on Monday hailed the likes of grasshoppers, ants and other members of the insect world as an underutilized food for people, livestock and pets."

You know, I am old enough to remember when progress was thought to be all about lifting people up into a better tomorrow as opposed to bringing almost everyone down to the lowest common denominator.

Now I can only assume that this is for the least equal have-nots of the utopia of future. For the slightly more equal haves? What? Soylent Green? BBQ Long Pork?

Oh, well back to my early lunch of 16oz or so of cold rare roast Prime Rib and beer...

I can just imagine how the bureaucrats in the US would react.

Some gourmet types and homesteading farmers grow their own bugs for use as chicken feed. I've always wondered how they got away with it in today's regulatory environment. Maybe its too small a problem for the USDA or EPA to deal with; if Tyson's Chicken started replacing some of their corn-based feed with worms and grubs, I can easily imagine the corn lobby yanking the leashes on their legislative cronies and making insect feed highly illegal.
