EchoFiveMike
I ask for pics and the man delivers video... awesome "I don't know how this Polish Leopard-2A6 got parked on lawn, hon! I asked a guy on the internet for a video and..." I was driving through Bradley IL the other day and there was a Chieftain parked in a truck drop lot just off I-57. About the last thing I would have expected. S/F....Ken M 'The Redcoat's is coming, The Redcoat's is coming!' Meh, it's probably some Brits on vacation who want to see if the Chicago crime thing is really true. Hope they brought HESH. S/F....Ken M
Damian
Wot of is? (From Damian's album) Mortar vehicle? ATGM vehicle? Looks cool. This vehicle is called Kroton, and yep it's self propelled mine layer. It is based on Opal II chassis which is modified and upgraded MT-LB. And yeah if someone have questions about vehicles visible on photos, just ask, I will try to answer as best as I can. omg... those fans... are those factory build, or adapted Orbita fans? Because the blades themsleves look a lot like after Orbita fans. Factory build, but remeber that Opal I and Opal II platforms and their variants were designed in late 80's and produced in 90's, and in terms of economy these years were terrible, so no one even reamed about a proper A/C unit in vehicles, so they done it as best as they could at that specific time. And yeah, in Poland A/C units in vehicles are must during summer, it can be hot like in hell here, through few recent weeks we have temperatures at around 40+C, you can imagine how hot can be inside a car. Damian
http://wirtualne.muzeumbronipancernej.pl/ Here is a link to the museum of armor placed next to the ground forces training center in Poznan, the museum will be soon moved to allow visitors take a better look at vehicles kept there. Internet site is avaiable in english as well. Also in next few years Polish armed forces museum in Warsaw will be moved to new buildings in Warsaw citadel, and hopefully more and more vehicles they have will be restored and moved to display in new museum. So if anyone is interested I strongly advise to visit Poland.
Damian
Hey Stuart, Torun these days is really beautifull, I lived there for a year, really worth to visit, amazingly beautifull old town.
Damian
In Torun Polish Army have their Artillery and Armaments Training Center, so there is large artillery proving ground near city and there are few military objects in the city itself. Oh and information, the South Korean K9 chassis is right now in Huta Stalowa Wola, they are going to integrate it and test it with AHS Krab turret this week, we can expect presentation 25th August after they will paint it, maybe even earlier. Damian
It seems our MoD starts to create a very cool promo videos, as I heard armed forces will be increased in numbers so this is probably made to find even more recruits... even if already our recruitment bureaus are full of volunteers. These are only teasers, full videos will be released in september.
Kadrun
I want to hear more about the performance of AHS Krab, especially comparison between two versions. I believe it is on test phase as of now?
Damian
Hey Kadrun, right now from what we heard is that our Army is delighted after initial presentation with K9 chassis. It's more ergonomic for crew, more mobile, finally can pivot in place, which old chassis could not do because of obsolete transmission taken from T-72. Thanks to MTU engine it does not create a lot of smoke. New Krab is also slightly lower (which is good thing) but even then it stores the same amount of ammo as old one. Our Army really like the idea of hydropneumatic suspension. However tests will be performed in september and I will be in the army at that time, I might be able to write a bit when I will have short leave to home tough. I know that right now plan is, first new AHS Krab will be presented at MSPO in Kielce from 1st to 4th september, second new Krab will be completed soon, then both will be sended to Army for tests. Damian
And this year MSPO military exhibition in Kielce, starting 1st september up to 4th september, well pity I can't be there, but it seems this year there will be plenty of armored vehicles, which is good. Polish Armed Forces will exhibit their Leopard 2A5, Leopard 2A4 and PT-91, besides this there will be also Bergepanzer 2, WZT-3, AHS Krab, various Rosomak versions, probably also AHS Kryl, WR-40 Langusta, and many, many more. There will be also exhibition of historical vehicles. PS. One more info, it seems US Army will have two bases for armored battalions in Poland, one of them will take an old Polish Army base not far from where I live. The base was not used for some time, and probably will need renovation. Work and deployment should start next year. So in Poland there will be stored equipment for not ull Armored Brigade Combat Team, and US will rotate around 1500 soldiers, not bad, would be better if we would have here a full strenght ABCT with permament deployment of US troops. Also there is planned investition to modernize Drawsko Pomorskie proving ground (largest in Poland and one of the largest in Europe), so it will serve as excercise center not only for Polish Army but also for all NATO troops.
