jwduquette1 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I bought the KV1S -- its 1/2 price this weekend. One battle in it. We lost the match, but I love this thing. I was pleasently surprised by its agility and speed inspite of it being a heavy. I had some crew dudes that have been lounging about my barracks without a tank assignment -- getting fat. Good crew skills but from a hodge podge of Russian vehicles I have sold. I retrained the TC and gunner to KV1S standard using some gold. But left everyone else untrained on the KV1S. While we lost the first match I fought in the thing, I managed to schwack three bad guys. And I was equipped with only the 76mm as my main gun. So what happens with crew that arent specifically trained in the KV1S -- what are the penalties? Do they eventually become KV1S crew guys if I fight enough battles? Or do I just have to bite the bullet and pay to retrain? Thnx
Harold Jones Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 You have to pay to retrain. If they are not trained in the vehicle then they take a % hit to their skill level the amount depends on whether they are from the same class of vehicle. If they are the same class as the vehicle they are in then it's only 25% (I think) if they are of a different class the reduction is greater. Additionally any unlocked secondary skills are not used until a crewman is trained for the vehicle they are in. The crew still gains XP at the normal rate. The rules for premium vehicles are different, so long as the crew is from a vehicle that is of the same class as the premium they will function as if they are fully trained for that vehicle.

Thanks Harold -- particularly the part concerning premium crews.
jwduquette1 Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 Could I get u guys to expand a bit more on the Special rules relating to Crews and Premium Tanks? I just bought a T-26E4 premium to have another higher margin credit earner. It handles more like a heavy than a medium -- be that as it may -- it seems to earn a lot of doe even when I loose a match. If I put my standard Sherman crew into the Super Pershing -- the Sherman Crew is a pretty old crew for me with second skills\perks working on third skills & perks -- I don't need to pay gold to retrain them into the Super Pershing; And they will be able to use all their current Sherman skills when piloting the Super Pershing; And they will also continue to gain crew experience toward their 3rd skills\perks while driving the Super Pershing? Is this all correct?
Fritz Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Yeah that's the third good thing about premium tanks - you can put on them and train any crew from the same nationality and same tank class.(the first is that you don't have to grind them and the second is the cash flow)

Just a follow up on this old post. Apparently a crew member not trained on vehicle only gains 1/2 EXP from a match. So if I stick a Pershing crew member in an M7 and I get 1500 EXP for the match, the Pershing crewman gets only 750 EXP for the match. I just checked this in a match for giggles. Stuck my Pershing crew (with the exception of the TC -- who was the M7 TC) in an M7 and everyone got half EXP for the match except the M7 TC. He got full EXP.
Marek Tucan Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Also note that the skill penalty depends on vehicle category - if you try to sticck a Medium crewman into Heavy, he gets additional penalty.
