Re “drivers” - first, strange this story only made way to Western press weeks after ceasing to be main local news. Second, this article describe this “drivers” as “blue-collar workers” indicating complete misunderstanding of the process. In fact this people are small business owners (driving own private truck) and this protest is similar to family farmers protests.

In America, the two are not mutually exclusive - you can be a blue collar worker and own your own business.

Small business, very small. The boss is his own only employee. Like a truck driver or taxi driver that owns his own vehicle and a license.

Thank you, i was not aware of self-employed people also referred to as workers.

Self-employed truck drivers are just as dependant if not even more on the dispatcher agency giving them jobs. So not much of a difference to a worker that is employed. And as self employed they have less rights towards the dispatcher. 2nd class workers in the end.

Or from german barbers I know that many are today "self-employed", but working always at the same owner's shop. Smells like pseudo self employement.

So yeah, effectively blue collar, but less rights.

That is why they are so vulnerable to fall into different half-criminal activities or just dangerous neglect of safety -and that is why Gov want them to be regulated....

Most freelance journalists back when I was working in that field, too. At my local paper we were essentially regulars who got to decide when they worked within certain limits, got paid by the day/hour/line/picture, handled our own taxes, but were somewhat privileged over proper self-employees by being insured through the Artists Social Fund where half of the premiums is covered by fees paid by any media company, not really different from public labor welfare except companies pay lump sums rather than per employee.

Surprisingly, the practice has been cut back at that paper now, and most of my former colleagues from the stringer pool are regular editors. Maybe out of social commitment; they're part of the Madsack group which belongs to the SPD media empire. Then again, when some of the freelance photographers had the temerity to publish their own magazine a couple years ago, they were not just simply embargoed, but banned from entering the paper's premises by the bitch-in-chief.

Why is this old story dug out now? Is he trying to get closer to Germany and EU again?

And I can believe him, I scared unintentionally dog shy people myself, when I had a dog. As a dog owner it is an alien concept to be afraid of dogs. You just do not think of it.

But then Merkel could have asked him nicely to send the dog out if the room, because she felt uncomfortable. Wonder why she did not.

Is not alien concept in France, a lot of people seem to be scared of dogs. Heck, I was even asked by a couple walking a tiny barking rat if I did not get scared - well yes I did - scared of stepping on the thing. And some French people are really almost panicking at the sight of my friend's 25 kilo Malinois crossbreed... Let alone when she was babysitting her ex-boyfriend's cane corso :D

Im more amused by the fact that, as an ex spymaster, he would somehow lack the knowledge that a major Western Politician didnt like dogs. I mean, its not like it was a state secret or anything. :D

He also is making comments that the West and Russia should work together to fight terrorism (as we clearly should) that Middle East Terrorism is all our fault (which it isnt) and that Nato is a threat to Russian security (which it isnt, but to some extent its a gollum he created).

With Putin, im increasingly impressed by the razor sharp wit, mixed with with an ability within a few heartbeats to demonstrate he is clearly bloody clueless. Its as if Richard Nixon and Obama had a love child together or something. :)

Richard Nixon is chump change next to Hillary.....

Vladimir Putin says he didnt intend to scare dog-phobic Angela Merkel when he brought his Labrador to a meeting
Merkel, who is famously terrified of dogs, kept quiet over the 2007 incident

And it is, but if you hear the next door neighbour beating up his wife and leaving empty beer bottles on the doorstep, its going to change how you perceive them no matter how pleasant they might be in person.

Well, I think this description is perfectly fit for West as it seen from Russia, with all its adventures from Yugoslavia to Afghanistan.

Eagle-eye grandma helped police arrest "ISIS spy" on a train.

IDF reserve officer, sitting in a train going from Moscow to Cheboksary was arrested on suspicion on belong to extremist group ISIS. One passenger noticed that the officer was reading a book in Hebrew and realized that something clearly must be wrong. She let the local police know, which immediately arrested the Israeli and searched his baggage. According to Mark G (the person who was arrested) he was interrogated three separate times. In the end, the Israeli citizen was released and continued to Cheboksary where his wife and child were visiting relatives.

Moral of the story: Don't read books in furrin languages unknown to Russians. Or else.

For political correctness sake replaced by Catherine the Great who was both female and migrant (German)

P.S. Stuart is marketing-savvy :)
