The MV Bunga Mas Lima is about 75% open space for mission modules (read ISO containers).Has big derrick up front so it can load/unload/rearrange them as needed. The hangar takes 2 Sea Kings and the pad can handle both at once. A RAST is not needed cause it is so bloody big. They can comfortably house nearly a company without any more modules, and they even have a VBSS breaching area to practice on. Derrick also lets it manage CB-90s as needed. Big Wartsila diesels are very frugal and very dependable.

They now even have a holding area for pirates waiting to be sent back to Malaysia for trial.

Take that lifeboat rig off the stern and install a chipper/shredder, you'd really have something.

Sounds like a more mobile equivalent to an oil service barge, or a hollow RFA vessel. I'm sure the americans will convince them of the foolishness of their ways with the glorious success the LCS has against pirates.

A lot of sharks following ready for laser beam attachment?

Hang 'em at the yardarm.

They wanna play pirate? The plank...sharks like edible squeaky toys, too.

All it needs to be complete are some Gav!ns. Being fully amphibious, they should easily be deployable from a ship like this.

This was a perfectly decent thread until you decided to drop the clanger!

How many Gav!ns can you cram an LCS?

Which kind of Gavin? AmphiGavin, HeliGavin, or OntosGavin?

Personally, I think the LCS ought to carry about 6 OntosGavins in some kind of RO-RO configuration. They can provide close-in surface defense, plus dismount and go ashore.

2 HeliGavins on the hangar, plus the Gav!n mission module that integrated the Ontos/AmphiGavin with an JIDWSD (Joint Integrated Destructor of Wheeled Stryker Deathtraps!!!), and a UAV, of course.

Bunga Mas Lima sounds like something Berlusconi would be into more than a specialized cargo ship.

I think a highly impractical and wildly stylized anti-pirate ship (read: good idea for TankNet) would be one of those semi-submersible recovery ships like the one which brought ack the USS Cole. There's one in Charleston Harbor right now- would be pretty fun to capture a few fishermen out on their center console boats one weekend.

The ship will also need grapeshot capable 106mm RCLs on sviwel mounts located on the bridgewings.....

If you want to disappear in a Florida city harbor, paint it white, name it the Miss Behavin, and have some bikini babes catching rays on the foredeck.

That will be excellent if they ever have to fight harbor pirates or riverine enemies in a megapolis.

The paint job is, IIRC, supposed to do two things:

  • make it harder to visually estimate the ship's speed and direction
  • hide the dirty exhaust plume that was always on the side of the ship

The first is more in line with the old 'dazzle' paint jog than the "you can't see me" way we think of most camouflage.

That's the intel section.

If dazzle wasn't very successful in the age of visual rangefinding, how is it going to help in the age of radar?

It's like the navy sailors I see around here in their navy camo, WTF?

Image is everything.
