...seriously, NOBODY wants a free room with good rail connections? I'm just off Willsden Junction, and Harlseden has you into central London in 40.

Plus, you'd all be safe. I don't eat junk food :P

Could be interested myself, if not for the main tankfest event, for the London section of I&I.

Hey, I'll PM you the address so you can Google Fu it.

Unfortunately, I believe in mental torture - we have other than a predominantly Carribean locale, a whole host of Latin eateries and clubs - Argentinian, Portuguese, Brazilian...I nae letting you see, eat or drink anything NOT Latino while here :D

Na, just joking. Co ordinates on the way.

Yup, but I have sunday and Mike Steele on board - so far, nobody is sharing a bed as I can crash at my ex wife's and the kids during the night. Darkness be praised, she'll love to have me on the sofa, getting breakfast and ferrying the kids to school.

Be wit youse during the day, It'll be fun. Thinking BBQ and brews.

BBQ and beer is always good, it looks like my brother and his wife will be meeting Jami and I in the UK after tankfest so I think what we'll end up doing is flying in to London on the Thursday before, spend Friday and part of Saturday in London before catching the train to Bournemouth, Sunday at tankfest and back to London Monday morning for the rest of the TN agenda then Link up with my brother on Tuesday morning.

So do we descend on the show Saturday or Sunday? Tickets are on sale now and I sort of remember they sell out fairly quickly.

So, should we all be buying tickets now for Sunday?

I'm just sitting here with Dave, and we are going over a list of things to do in the greater South England area. Possible items:

- Bovington itself might actually better be a two-day event; while everybody is watching the dynamic display at Tankfest, you won't get around to going through the actual museum.

- Just two miles up the road from Bovington is Clouds Hill, which is the cottage where Lawrence of Arabia used to live while he was in the Tank Corps.

- For the general British history buffs, there is a small museum at Tolpuddle dedicated to the (bloody socialist union crybaby) Tolpuddle Martyrs.

- About ten miles to the East are the remains of Corfe Castle, defended by the lady of the manor against the Parliamentarian side during the English Civil War.

- About 15 miles to the Northwest is the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovil.

We are thinking of shifting base to Ashford after a few days in the Bovington area, which is only one hour away from London by train and could be used for trips both there (without taking cars into the metropolitan area) and into the Medway area containing the following:

- Dover Castle with the tunnels used by Admiral Ramsey when he commanded the Dunkirk evacuation and D-Day landings.

- The Kent Battle of Britain Museum at Hawkinge.

- The Royal Engineers Museum in Chatham.

Overall, you could likely spend two or three days in the Bovington area, and two more operating from Ashford, not including events in London. But we will possibly have an extended vacation there even after the main contingent has dispersed, so all this must not necessarily be on the itinerary of more time-strapped TankNetters attending.

We're both happy with doing Tankfest on Sunday by the way.

I am up for that. That's what I was thinking at first anyway.

Sounds like a good idea to me, AFAIK the museum is open on the monday - I'll ask this weekend when I'm next up there

There is also a steam railway that runs from a car park a mile or two away to the castle, if anyone is interested in that kind of thing.

I'm up for this, funds permitting

With the lack of dissent it seems safe to say sunday is confirmed - tickets are available here, make sure you select the right day.

Why not some activities in the Portsmouth area? HMS Victory and HMS Warrior look like nice places to visit. And Portsmouth seems to be quite close to Bournemouth.

There is also the Royal Armouries artillery collection at Fort Nelson just outside Portsmouth.

So, two days in Portsmouth? One for artillery, one for ships?

Unless there are any risk of matelots disliking threadheads :D

Yeah, good question. No idea on convenient places. We got anywhere good for us we can drop stuff of securely? Trustworthy? The kind of place where the owner actually wishes for a home invasion, for the practice?

Define "Close". Munich. Paris. PanDemonium, London...

Jami and I will avail ourselves of your hospitality and store the big suitcase(akaThe Luggage) with you while we gad about looking at tanks and such. I'll know how much post Tankfest tanknet related gadding about we can commit to once my brother gets off the pot and tells me when he will be arriving. I am willing to help out with the cost of renting a van if one or more of our wrong side of the road driving brethren are willing to do the actual driving.

So presuming a little on Maxx's hospitality

Friday arrival and welcome bbq at Maxx's place

Saturday morning train to Bournemouth (Jami and I are booked into the Whitehall)

Saturday afternoon Tank Museum (transport tbd)

Sunday Tankfest (transport tbd)

Yes, but I'm Currently stymied by their website requiring a postal code but not accepting my US ZIP Code, although it does let me set my country to United States.
