Mr King Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Lately I been on a low carb kick so I have been munching on pickles as a snack. Specifically Claussen brand hot and spicy dill pickles. They are very crisp, and are the hottest pickles I have found yet. What ever they use to spice the pickles sticks to my tongue and burns quite nicely. For the low carb diet I had to give up bread and butter pickles which are some of my favorite pickles, especially if home made. There is a imported brand of barrel pickles from Germany I buy once in a while when I feel like splurging. They have a very unique taste to them. Gundelsheim barrel pickles. Also would like to try Branston pickles. I keep eying them in the British section of the ethnic isle at the super market.
Sardaukar Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Good stuff. Used to use lot of gherkin with sandwiches. Edited August 11, 2012 by Sardaukar
Max H Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Also would like to try Branston pickles. I keep eying them in the British section of the ethnic isle at the super market. You might be disappointed, ASUI it's what's called a relish where you're at. Good with cheese, but a bit messy for munching on
Mr King Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 Yeah I knew Branston pickles are more of what we call a relish. But thank you Max for the heads up and serving tip.

Mr King Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 Love a good chutney, especially with some naan bread or heated brie cheese with crackers.
Mr King Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 Never had Boars Head pickles. I have had their deli meat and it is really top notch.
Hittite Under The Bridge Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I make my own. I slice cucumbers from the garden, although I'm sure store bought would work just fine. Put a teaspoon of kosher salt in a Ball jar with a pinch of garlic powder to taste, boil a half and half mixture of water and white vinegar and pour into the jar over the cukes. Seal it up nice and tight and the pickles will stay nice and crisp and I mean crisp unrefrigerated for up to a year.. For a little heat, add a fresh habenero or hungarian wax pepper.
