JamesR Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 For those who are playing this game, they recently came out with a contest: http://worldoftanks.com/news/1250-tank-model-building-contest/ Rules:Only one model may be submitted for each accountThe model can be no larger than 1/24th scaleBuilding parts and additions for the tank from scratch is permissibleThe tank model should be of a tank that is included in World of Tanks as of the 7.3 patchTanks will be primarily judged with three criteria in mind: Quality of Build, Quality of Painting, and how similarly it resembles one of our in game tanksSend in a total of 6 image files to design@worldoftanks.com with Tank Model Contest in the subject line and your in game name. Make sure your photos are high resolution and well lit so we can see your detail work.Image 1: a photo showing the model assembly process (make sure we can tell that what you're building in the photo and what you end up with are in fact the same project--give us no reason to question your submission)Image 2: a photo showing the assembled model prior to beginning the majority of the painting (included in the photo must be a piece of paper with World of Tanks Model Contest and your in game name)Image 3: a photo showing the painting process (again, include the piece of paper)Image 4: a photo showing your completed tank from a front angle (including the Model Contest paper with your nickname)Image 5: a photo showing your completed tank from a side angle (including the Model Contest paper with your nickname)Image 6: a dramatic photo of the model. Additionally, add in a side by side image (two pictures merged into one) of a screen shot taken from the game to show how insanely similar your tank is to one of our own in game tanks![*]You may submit your six pictures from now until May 31st, 11:59 PM PDT (6:59 AM UTC Jun 1st). Curious what time this is in your region? Use this handy Time Zone Converter to help you out.[*]You may have help with making this model, although buying a professionally completed tank or hiring a professional modeler/painter to assist you with this model will disqualify you. Not a lot of time left.. Honestly 1 month isnt enough time to put together something too detailed but there is still time to throw something together. I'd like to build a model of my Patton but I am not sure if I want to mix and match two different kits. The only "inexpensive" M46 kit I see out there is from Lindberg. Does anyone have an experience with that kit?
Manic Moran Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I suspect an extension will be granted on the completion date.
JamesR Posted May 14, 2012 Author Posted May 14, 2012 Good news.. looks like we will get an extension.... After some internal discussion, expect us to officially announced that we'll be extending the deadline on this one. We're thinking to a total of some six weeks, to let those of us who have jobs actually do a proper crack at a build. The_Chieftain I ordered the Linberg M46. Based on what I've read it's a poor quality model. I'll use as many parts as possible from my Italeri M47 kit. I might use this thread to post some work in progress photos. This will be the first time I've worked on a model in years.
MicroMark Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 ha, as we've playing WoT games in 1/72 for months now at our wargames club, I have over 200 models to pick from! Not that they would win any modelling competitions, as I've put them together quickly, but recent additions include KV-5, Su-100Y with 130mm gun, SMK, and T-100. With VK4502, A30 Avenger, A33 Excelsior, A43 Black Prince, P26/40 all to come. If you search hard enough, and are willing to spend up to £30 a tnak you can find models of virtually anything. Not seen a KV-4, P43, TAS 44M and TAS 45M yet though. Yes, we have tanks that are not in the game. As long as you can get a model of it, we'll use it. Used my KV-3 with 107mm gun for first time last week, it's awesome! On it again tonight, I'll try and take some pictures if I remember. Mark

Mark If you don't mind 1/35, there is a very nice model of the TAS 44M and 45M out in resin. Matt
JamesR Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Well the Lindberg M46 model came in and it is indeed crap. In addition, even though its marked 1/35 its actually 1/32. The hull is too big for the M47s turret, so I think I'm just going to stuck with the M47. The main difference visiually between the two is the little "hump" between the driver and hull machine gunner. I might attempt to scratch build the hump but I doubt it.

Paul G. Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 (edited) Now THAT is scratchbuilding. Would hate to see it get wet. The all wood IS-3 is pretty good too. Edited June 14, 2012 by Paul G.
FlyingCanOpener Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 And to think I have trouble with Gundam model kits that are snap assembly.
