Ivanhoe Posted January 30 Posted January 30 https://investigatemidwest.org/2022/10/24/secret-subsidies-program-meant-to-help-farmers-in-trade-war-overspent-lacked-transparency-and-compliance-checks/ Quote A U.S. Department of Agriculture program touted as relief for lost trade during the Trump-era trade war with China spent unprecedented amounts of money, bypassed Congressional approval and lacked checks to ensure the payments went to eligible farmers. The Market Facilitation Program doled out more than $23 billion, more than all other USDA direct payment subsidies combined over the duration of the MFP. But the USDA failed to make sure the money was going to the farmers who needed it, according to the Government Accountability Office, a nonpartisan government agency. https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/usda-official-admits-receiving-bribes-exchange-preferential-treatment-award-security Quote WASHINGTON – Richard Holman, a 69-year-old Virginia resident and former Chief of the United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Coordination, Physical Security Division, pled guilty today in federal court in the District of Columbia to one count of bribery. According to court papers, between July 2013 and December 2015, Eric Schneider and Communications Resources, Inc. (CRI) gave Holman and other USDA officials Corvette wheels, concert tickets, PGA tour tickets, meals, alcohol, strip clubs, parking, concierge medical services, prescription drugs, and other cash tips. In exchange, Holman gave Eric Schneider and CRI preferential treatment in the award of USDA contracts worth over $19 million. As part of the scheme, CRI employees drafted procurement documents in such a way as to favor the award of a multi-million dollar contract to CRI, and USDA officials used the documents in the procurement process as if they prepared them. https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdtx/pr/usda-loan-specialist-and-contractors-sent-prison-roles-loan-bribery-scheme Quote McALLEN, Texas – Three Starr County residents have been sentenced for their roles in a bribery scheme involving the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Rio Grande City residents Roberto Rodriguez, 52, Daniel Diaz, 68, and Jose Sandoval, 71, each pleaded guilty May 17. Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane has now imposed a 16-month term of imprisonment for Rodriguez, while Diaz and Sandoval received 8 and 6 months in federal prison, respectively. Each must also serve three years of supervised release following their sentences. At the hearing, the court heard additional evidence of the dollar amount of the contracts awarded to each contractor including $1,107,228 to Diaz and $709,854 to Sandoval. In handing down the prison terms, Judge Crane noted that he hoped it served as an example to the community not to get involved in corrupt practices. https://ohiocapitaljournal.com/2023/02/02/billions-in-federal-farm-payments-flow-to-a-select-group-of-producers-report-shows/ Quote WASHINGTON — The top 10% of recipients of federal farm payments raked in more than 79% of total subsidies over the last 25 years — producing billions of dollars for a relatively small group of U.S. producers, according to a new analysis of federal data from an environmental group. In total, the federal government paid more than $478 billion from 2015 to 2021 in farm support for crop insurance, disasters, conservation payments and subsidies for certain crops like corn and soybeans, according to the analysis of federal data the Environmental Working Group released Wednesday. The U.S. Agriculture Department programs support hundreds of thousands of producers across the country. But a select group of super collectors is bringing in an outsized portion of farm subsidies. The top 1% collected 27% of total subsidies between 1995 and 2021, according to the report. If there are taxpayers dollars involved, there will be fraud and corruption.

He seems to be a self-important left-wing prat that uses cheesy argumentative tricks every time he debates someone with any ability. A lot of mediocre Youtubers/podcasters used to think he was a serious intellect. He also has some sort of scandal hanging over his head, sexual harassment or worse AIUI.

Gammas are often intelligent, usually unsuccessful with women, and not uncommonly all but invisible to them, the Gamma alternates between placing women on pedestals and hating the entire sex. This mostly depends upon whether an attractive woman happened to notice his existence or not that day. Too introspective for their own good, Gammas are the men who obsess over individual women for extended periods of time and supply the ranks of stalkers, psycho-jealous ex-boyfriends, and the authors of excruciatingly romantic rhyming doggerel. In the unlikely event they are at the party, they are probably in the corner muttering darkly about the behavior of everyone else there... sometimes to themselves. Gammas tend to have have a worship/hate relationship with women, the current direction of which is directly tied to their present situation. However, they are sexual rejects, not social rejects. Quote OMEGA: The truly unfortunate. Omegas are the social losers who were never in the game. Sometimes creepy, sometimes damaged, often clueless, and always undesirable. They're not at the party. It would never have crossed anyone's mind to invite them in the first place. Omegas are either totally indifferent to women or hate them with a borderline homicidal fury.

I didn't see those when I first clicked on it a few hours ago. Just another reminder that social media stories without sources shouldn't be trusted, and folks should triple-check to see if there are other sites carrying the news. Zero reason to trust a post or picture alone on social media these days.

Skywalkre Posted January 30 Posted January 30 1 hour ago, JWB said: Feel the Bern .......! These numbers seemed... off... so I went and looked them up. Appears whoever put this list together is using lifetime contributions (going back to '90) and these figures match what you can find on opensecrets here. The thing is... big pharma donates to everyone... so I went and added up the total lifetime contributions of all the members on the committee yesterday to see if this post had any merit. Lifetime big pharma contributions to the Rs on the committee - $11,568,705 Lifetime big pharma contributions to the Ds on the committee - $10,007,660 That difference is larger than the difference of Rs vs Ds on the committee. In short, the guy who wrote this X post cherry-picked lifetime figures (because they're bigger) and then made a claim that's not supported by the actual figures. Another example of why social media is garbage for good discussion...
Skywalkre Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Trying to give that poster the benefit of the doubt, if you look at that website big pharma shifted spending back around '20 to give to Ds more than Rs at a 3:2 clip (whereas before '20 they were donating more to Rs), so I thought I'd look at donations from just this last year to committee members. Big pharma donations in '24 to Rs on the committee - $1,422,834 Big pharma donations in '24 to Ds on the committee - $394,031 So... yeah... that poster was completely pulling his argument out of his ass. Shock, surprise...
