My brother got me into juicing recently. Bought a cheep Jack Lalane juicer at Walmart to see if I like it. Got a bunch of produce and went at it trying different variations of juice. Found out quickly that I really enjoy the juicing. I ended up ordering a Breville 800JEXL juicer that is much more powerful and well built then the Jack Lalane juicer. Man does that thing tear thru fruit and vegitables like no ones business, though in fairness the Jack Lalane juicer worked well for what it cost.

When I juice I tend to put a little bit of everything in my juice. My typical recipe goes as follows - 2 oranges, 2 apples, 1 red grapefruit, radishes, 2 stalks of celery, 2 carrots, half a lemon, spinache, kale, half a cucumber, and grapes if they're on sale. The taste is quite good I think. The lemon takes the bitterness out of the greeens. I also peel my oranges and grapefruit because if you dont the juice will be bitter.

Clean up is a real snap. You just lower the safety lever, then take the 3 pieces off from the top down, and scrub them in the sink with the brush provided by the manufacturer. You can put a plastic sack in the pulp collection bin and it saves you from having to clean it.

Below is a pic of the model juicer I bought.

I have some friends who juice...When I watched a demonstration, I felt as if I were in a Loony Tunes cartoon. Everything and anything went in--carrots, celery, spinach...dandelion...The result was not bad-tasting, but was accurately described as an "alfalfa daiquiri".

If you need a heavy shot of nutrients, juicing is not a bad idea--just don't overdo it. You can get too many vitamins (which has side effects), plus plants also produce certain compounds that are unhealthy in large concentrations. For example, carrots have a natural toxin called, appropriately enough, "carototoxin" as a self-defense against insects.
