X-Files Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Devil in the details - Luxembourg may keep their old AUGs on hand for emergency wartime use as, after all, thousands of residents are familiar with the design. bojan Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Nikitin PN, competitor to Kalashnikov PK, in use in Ukraine (by Ukrainians, both examples later captured by Russians): About 1000 PNs were made for troop trials, after PK was adopted those were sent to storage.

17thfabn Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I wonder if the Vietnamese make replacement parts for their M16A1? Most of the M16A1 I saw in the service had the bottom of the hand guards smashed up. Also do they have any of the original M16 in service?

Quote Also do they have any of the original M16 in service? Probably, there were pics of various models appearing sporadically including XM-177 and even Mk 4 Mod 0... Edit - short version among their SF: https://x.com/AnnQuann/status/1895340773778039187 And at refurbishment facility:
17thfabn Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Looks like they are putting A2 style hand guards on A1 rifles in the rehab.
bojan Posted March 11 Posted March 11 To me they look like GAU-5A/Colt 607: But not all details match. They are calling it "M18 Carbine".
17thfabn Posted March 11 Posted March 11 (edited) Looks like the Vietnamese have a system of upgrading the parts on the M16 etc. rifles. For being 50 + years old they look good. When the U.S. first went into Vietnam many units were like cowboys with all sorts of odd guns. Old M1 carbines, some cut down. Thompson machine guns, m3 grease guns, shot guns. It would be interesting to see what odd ball guns Vietnam picked up. Edited March 11 by 17thfabn
bojan Posted March 11 Posted March 11 M1/2 Carbine, M1 Garands, BARs, M14s are occasionally seen with militia but are quite rare nowadays. I am not sure if I have seen Grease guns. M60s and M1919s are used mostly on armored vehicles, interestingly there are pics of BTR-50 with pintly 1919s. They are making copy of M79 and M203 GLs. They are also making modified license copy of the Galil Ace in 7.62x39, which is their standard rifle ATM. https://modernfirearms.net/en/bez-rubriki-en/stv-380-stv-215-2/ On the larger side they have quite a bit of M113s still operational. Other armored vehicles are still stored, judging from the pics in decent shape, at least externally:
