shep854 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Cool looking, but too big as a pistol, and too small as a rifle. rmgill Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 Longziz AR-15 Bullpup conversion. Has on the fly change over of ejection port selection and uses an AR15 lower as the internal component of the receiver but with other new components. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmOFTc8omd4

Luckily I did a search before doing so. Edited November 29, 2011 by baboon6

Lampshade111 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I don't know if it would qualify as a firearm of note and ridicule but supposedly the FAMAS has a really bad reputation, something I did not know until recently. It can't be good if the French are already looking to replace them. Does anybody have more details about the problems the FAMAS has?

See the discussions about the HK33 and 93 series weapons. 5.56mm does not like a recoil-operated system, for reasons probably related to the short and sharp recoil impulse. I kind of have to laugh, seeing your second paragraph, though... You do realize the thing's been in service since the 1970s, and is about due for a life-cycle replacement, anyway? I haven't heard that the French are having particular problems with them, but that they're dissatisfied with the weapon due to the inability to easily attach optics and other accessories. There's also some complaint about the need for steel-cased ammo, and interoperability with NATO, because the FAMAS has a habit of ripping cartridge bases off of everything except the French stuff.
Guest JamesG123 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Has on the fly change over of ejection port selection and uses an AR15 lower as the internal component of the receiver but with other new components. Nice, but I can't think of a practical application for that feature.
Guest JamesG123 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 The switchable ejection. The AR receiver is irrelevant. Used, I assume, because its what he had laying around, or to appeal to the black rifle groupies.
Guest JamesG123 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 No, they'd just go to the next thing to bitch about.

In the meantime, though, they will be able to aim and shoot without exposing their whole head and upper torso (at least). Edited December 4, 2011 by shep854

Problem might be that not many trains something like that..so even when able to use rifle on "wrong shoulder", can they hit anything?

Besides, the feature would allow lefties to shoot naturally. The problem would be to get the feature adopted for a military firearm. Of course, now that it's been done, such adoption may only be a matter of time. In the meantime props to the young man for his effort.

Uhhuh..."In her speech to UN conference in 2034, Space Marshal XXXXXXX strongly spoke against weapon designs that were "disruptive" and "against the finest traditions of military".

I was under the impression that the French forces had switched to the FAMAS G2 years ago. I didn't realize that most of their military is still using those '70s era F1 variants.

I didn't realize that most of their military is still using those '70s era F1 variants. I could be wrong, but I don't think the FAMAS G2 got produced in more than token numbers... I'm pretty sure the French Army is still issuing the same basic weapon (rebuilt a couple of times, I imagine...) they first issued in the 1970s.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them go to some kind of AR15 based solution. However, they did have an OICW like system under development called PAPOP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAPOP
Tomas Hoting Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I wouldn't be surprised to see them go to some kind of AR15 based solution. However, they did have an OICW like system under development called PAPOP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAPOP French army and air force SF already use the HK416 (to replace the M4). The HK417 is in use with the rest of the army as a DMR (to replace the SR25 and to complement the older G3). The Commandos Marine and the Gendarmerie Nationale units in AFG use the G36KE (some sporting an M4-style collapsible buttstock). The Commandos apparently preferred the G36 over the HK416. It's quite sad to see "le clarion" being replaced. The FAMAS was one rare bullpup rifle whose controls were laid out to suit both right-handed and left-handed soldiers (in comparison to more popular designs like the AUG).
Max H Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 If we're doing belt fed, how about a belt fed remington bolt action rifle? I'm not entirely sure it's real, but it's pretty neat! here (scroll down a bit)
Guest JamesG123 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Not real. A smartass with too much time on his hands.
shep854 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 (edited) That's funny, especially when you get to hubby's smile... Edited December 20, 2011 by shep854
