Dawes
Are any of India's current torpedoes compatible with the P-8? Also I thought the P-8 was called the "Poseidon", or is "Neptune" the name of the India-peculiar version? http://www.dsca.osd.mil/pressreleases/36-b/2011/India_11-15.pdf

Neptune is the Roman name for the same deity, Poseidon, which is the Greek version. Hence, the name Neptune for the P-8I, the Indian version. mnm
Neptune? The P2V is coming back?
Dawes
Yeah, I'm surprised that Lockheed doesn't have some sort of trademark on the "Neptune" name.
swerve
Can't do. How many Pumas, Lynxes, Lightnings, Hurricanes (in various languages), Eagles, Hawks, etc. have there been? Only one Spitfire, though.
Archie Pellagio
There was an issue with the flight sim il2 Pacific Fighters a few years back where Grumman wouldn't allow them to use the names of their aircraft or similar.

I've heard of manufacturer's lawyers going after scale model companies for "theft of intellectual properties"
Dawes
One can buy the small (1/32 scale?) die-cast models of the M270 MLRS at Wal-Mart or K-Mart (or at least they were available until recently). On the box is this statement: ATACMS and MLRS are registered trademarks of Lockheed Martin Corporation.MLRS M270 is a trademark of Lockheed Martin Corporation. Their website also reflects this statement. Do they collect a fee for the use of those terms by the model manufacturer?
mnm
I remember reading in the modelling press in the 80s about exactly this, model prices increasing due to the licensing fees claimed by the American manufacturers, Lockheed, General Dynamics, etc. Modelling firms would be barred from making P-38s, F-15s, F-16s, in short no US planes, current or past. Arminius
It´s plain DUMB! OK, I would reserve the right to check the Model ( or Model Kit, when properly assembled ) for proper execution and realisticity, but, hey, it´s ADVERISING! And it´s free! That and that and that Model of e.g. Aircraft was built by that company! But Model making and dioraming is an endangered species anyway ... Computers kill it. Sad.
