Nikolas93TS Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I am going to market a product I plan to call 'The Arabic Alarm Clock'. You set it for a certain time, and at that time it starts squawking 'Allahu Ackbar!'. Shot http://youtu.be/X7_0NoRHOEM
Simon Tan Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Not TANK. Armored Car. Strassenbahnpanzer.
FkDahl Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Nice site with Middle Eastern tanks as themehttp://milinme.wordpress.com/2012/10/14/civil-war-in-syria-7/
mnm Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Now if that had tracks instead of wheel it would be perfect for the Gav!n NG.
Galen.Wright Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 There's something delightfully post-modern about using TV/game-controller to control an AFV in a conflict that has depended so heavily on "the screen" (Youtube, etc) to mobilize local and international support for the insurgency.
Simon Tan Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 It's not. It's a simple reality that CCD cameras and flatscreens are so much more available and cheaper than a prismatic episcope.
rmgill Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 As locally innovative as that is I suspect it'll be PKM or DSHK bait in short order.

X-Files Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 What damaged the back of the hull that it peeled the armor: Looks like swaths of thick paint spalled off from the heat of the fire.

TonyE Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Poor man`s Goliath. The Rube Goldberg contraptions these guys (Arab Springers) cough up can be fairly surprising.

rmgill Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Probably a pretty sneaky place to hide to protect against low velocity incoming fire.
mnm Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 (edited) Poor man's cruise missile? This reminds me of a car I used to have: it had a will of its own but couldn't get anywhere Yessir, nothing less suspicious than a car moving alone with nobody at the wheel! Edited December 13, 2012 by mnm
Daan Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Footage of camera mounted on turret of regime T-72:http://youtu.be/zr_G6_7Ijb4 Report (45 min) of battle by Russian TV, including a camera on a BMP-2 driving through a damaged city. The BMP-2 occasionally fires at random. http://youtu.be/mtLyqaT7DQc
Gavin-Phillips Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Some interesting video footage posted in the links above. The BMP-2's don't look in too bad of a shape even if they are missing their side skirts to some extent. The T-72's on the other hand... Does anyone know when Syria got they last shipment of armoured vehicles? These ones must surely have been kicking around for some time or really have been hammered before they were captured? T-72M with ERA? Seeing all of the dust rain down from the damaged buildings next to the T-72 when it fires demonstrates how powerful the blast effect (for want of a better term) is.
Andrew Jaremkow Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Seeing all of the dust rain down from the damaged buildings next to the T-72 when it fires demonstrates how powerful the blast effect (for want of a better term) is. Yes, the muzzle blast from the second shot at 2:33 removes the top couple of feet of the of the adjacent (cinder block? brick?) wall over a 10' wide area. Very potent! I was surprised that the first two machine gun bursts (1:34) missed their targets. Instead of going into the windows they hit the sills immediately below the windows. Bad alignment of the machine guns with the sights? Insufficient elevation at this close range? Unless they're trying to shoot through the walls at anyone hiding below the window, but I wouldn't have thought the machine guns would be powerful enough to accomplish that. The impenetrable cloud of brick and concrete dust after the main gun shots certainly an obstacle. Can thermal imagers see through this sort of dust cloud, or would they be obscured too? Some non-combat questions: what are the big white and red tanks all over the roofs for? Part of the water supply?
Nikolas93TS Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 If I remember correctly,so take with grain of salt, last batch was in 1989.Small part was modernized from 1998 onward. BMP-2 was rarely seen before the uprising, and they were delivered and entered service somewhere between late 1987 and 1994 (differs by source),but only for most elite and loyal units.Older BMP-1 make bulk of IFVs force.
Rod Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 They would have been better off putting a block of C4 on top of a small off-road RC car that you can buy at any Toys R Us Poor man's cruise missile?

That's lack of accounting for sight offset at what is point blank range. Think about where the optics are on the tank compared to the gun and the Coax MG. Edited December 17, 2012 by rmgill
