EchoFiveMike Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 (edited) How the Hell do you miss at 300-400m? I could make that shot with a freaking pistol. S/F....Ken M Those SPG-9 guys should have engaged again. The quick camera cutaway tends to indicate no results. Edited November 6, 2012 by EchoFiveMike

shep854 Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Rare Tank vs Tank video.Rebel T72 stalks a T55 and puts a HEAT round to the hull front close range. Looks to me like #2 was an anchor shot. The T-55 looks like it was starting to burn after the first shot, but the rebels wanted to make sure.
Chris Werb Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 How the Hell do you miss at 300-400m? I could make that shot with a freaking pistol. S/F....Ken M It's hard to tell, but looking at the size of the buildings and the spacing between the phone/electric poles I suspect the range was 200 at the outside and possibly much less. They could have sighted by opening the breech and looking straight down the bore.
EchoFiveMike Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Yep, I think you're right Chris. S/F....Ken M
Tomi Sarvanko Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 It hit with both rounds. The T55 is smoking after the first hit. In this video there seems to be the same tank. Undermanned (no TC) and the gunner does not have a helmet (no com). They seem to know the basics. Fire and movement. Good show from the untrained monkeys in a monkey model. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XnLrD0YisQ
Exel Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Here's some pictures from the conflict: http://ir-ingr.livejournal.com/1185799.html Interestingly the rebels have got their hands on a Steyr AUG and I think I saw a Czech vz.58 in there as well. There's also the pride of any self-respecting uprising: a Toyota technical firing rockets.

Especially where the apparently unarmed guy gets it (note the bullet hole in forehead).

Simon Tan Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Fought by a mish mash of defectors, irrgulars, jihadis, foreigners etc. Conflict without formal structure and order on either side. Much more like FRY(Esp.Bosnia) than the ACW.
pikachu Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Fought by a mish mash of defectors, irrgulars, jihadis, foreigners etc. Conflict without formal structure and order on either side. Much more like FRY(Esp.Bosnia) than the ACW. Given that we've mostly been seeing the rebel side of the story, I wonder how the Assad side is really doing. I mean, the Loyalist army should be a lot less rag-tag than the rebels in theory. In fact, back during the opening stages they were quite effective when they deployed. It was only later as the conflagration spread across the entire country that they became kinda helpless, but we do know that planes still fly on a regular basis bombing rebel positions, and tanks are still deployed in decent numbers. What would the corresponding photographs from the Syrian Loyalist army look like?
Simon Tan Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 If you ignore the fact that the Army is fractured, demoralized and not entirey trusted or the government irregulars like the shabiha, the PLFPF-GC, Hez and Quds 'advisors' etc.The pic above is of government armor, see the 'UAR' Syrian flag. The FSA/rebels use the old Republic flag which is green, white and black with red stars. They look well used, with superficial damage (fenders, skirts, IR searchlight). Not dissimilar from some of the Libyan armor from their civil war. The lack of cables and shackles suggests that battlefiedl recovery is not a priority, which again is not unexpected for this military.
Gavin-Phillips Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Some very powerful pictures there. Someone's really risking both life and limb to bring such images back for the masses to see. The Steyr AUG (original model?) making an appearence caught my eye, but so did something else and I was wondering if anyone could identify what weapon this is; the man 2nd from the right has what might be a submachine gun with a perforated barrel design? Now I do recall hearing reports of Schmeisser MP40's being used during the Chechnya conflict (late 90's) but does anyone hazard a guess at what this weapon might be? Best regards Gavin
shep854 Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 (edited) Sterling. If you look close, you can see the mag over on the left side, going over the holder's shoulder. Edited November 12, 2012 by shep854

Simon Tan Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Which countries have the AUG and Sterling in numbers, in storage?
Gavin-Phillips Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Thanks for the replies. It just looked very...incongruous when seen amongst all those AK's, PK's and what I could assume to be SGMT's (pictured with a bipod on the truck and driver/passenger appears to have one as well). I could see someone making a mint from producing scale models of that BMP-1 turreted technical. Cool looking vehicle.
