Chinese archeologists have discovered the ancient ruins of a massive palace complex at the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, in the central city of Xi’an.

According to China's Xinhua news agency, the findings at the second-century BC mausoleum suggest the structure was about 690 meters long and 250 meters wide and included a main building overlooking 18 straggling courtyard-structured houses.

Naah, has to be older than Thracian.

After all, it's between the time when the Oceans drank Atlantis and the Rise of the sons of Arius. Which if you place it somewhere midway, say the Thera volcanic eruption that took Minoan culture down, it'd have to be earlier. But that's just my hunch. ;)

If the timeframe is Hyborian, it is probably Stygian in origin, given that they were among the few to retain snake imagery in their idols. It is highly doubtful that it could be pre-hyborian (whether from Acheron let alone any of the Antediluvian cultures), since the age involved would be too unlikely. :P

Some anthropology news;

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/9719058/European-Roma-descended-from-Indian-untouchables-genetic-study-shows.html

Gypsies have long believed they have origins in India, citing common Sanskrit words in their languages and photographs of darker-skinned ancestors in South Asian clothes, while earlier research has offered some scientific support for their suspicions.

Now a study led by Indian and Estonian academics, including Dr Toomas Kivisild of Cambridge University, has confirmed their origins in the Indian sub-continent, and even identified the location and social background from which they emerged.

...

When the researchers overlaid the closest matches onto a genetic map of India, the highest density was in areas dominated by India's "doma", "scheduled tribes and castes" – the low caste dalits or untouchables who suffer widespread and generational discrimination and usually do society's dirtiest jobs.

The researchers believe the descendants of today's Roma gypsies in Europe began their westward exodus first to fight in wars in what is today Punjab between 1001 and 1026 on the promise of a promotion in caste status.

Later, they left to flee the fall of Hindu kingdoms in what is today Pakistan, with many setting off from near Gilgit.

The story of Noah's Ark and the Great Flood is one of the most famous from the Bible, and now an acclaimed underwater archaeologist thinks he has found proof that the biblical flood was actually based on real events.

In an interview with Christiane Amanpour for ABC News, Robert Ballard, one of the world's best-known underwater archaeologists, talked about his findings. His team is probing the depths of the Black Sea off the coast of Turkey in search of traces of an ancient civilization hidden underwater since the time of Noah.

Not exactly new-new-new news but... http://en.wikipedia....luge_hypothesis

And even then it's not really agreed to.

The ages of the shell fossils detailed in Giosan's report hint that the pre-flood sea surface was only 95 feet (30 meters) lower than it is today. Columbia's Ryan, by contrast, suggests the Black Sea's rise has been at least 150 feet (50 meters) since reconnecting with the Mediterranean some 9,400 years ago.

I don't know about you but a 95 foot flood vs a 150 foot flood doesn't seem like all that much difference if you're on the ground when that's coming at you.

It seems not everyone agrees it was a catastrophic event anyway, but building a 300 cubit boat with special attention to caulking always seems to be a good idea just in case ;)

Stands to reason that there could have been an expansion of maya colonies not unlike the greek colonies in the med.

MEXICO CITY — Archaeologists say they have turned up about 150 skulls of human sacrifice victims in a field in central Mexico, one of the first times that such a large accumulation of severed heads has been found outside of a major pyramid or temple complex in Mexico.

Experts are puzzled by the unexpected find of such a large number of skulls at what appears to have been a small, unremarkable shrine. The heads were carefully deposited in rows or in small mounds, mostly facing east toward the rising sun, sometime between 660 and 860 A.D., a period when the nearby city-state of Teotihuacan had already declined but the Aztec empire, founded in 1325, was still centuries in the future.

Nonsense! Everybody knows that precolombian inhabitants of the Americas were peaceful people who lived in harmony with the environment before the evil Spaniards showed up and screwed everything up (and we'll neglect to wonder why Cortes found so many eager allies against the Aztecs).

When I heard 150 skulls found in mexico I expected to hear about gang violence. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

I've seen this movie before...

A “gate to hell” has emerged from ruins in southwestern Turkey, Italian archaeologists have announced.

Known as Pluto's Gate -- Ploutonion in Greek, Plutonium in Latin -- the cave was celebrated as the portal to the underworld in Greco-Roman mythology and tradition.
