Adam Peter Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 Cats are the usual offenders, maybe this is why a dog got into the news.
Ivanhoe Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 Since my Anthropology thread got eaten by the Great Server Cutover... https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/11/world/neanderthal-remains-italy-scn/index.html Quote (CNN)The discovery of the ancient remains of nine Neanderthals, a pack of hyenas and several elephants in the Guattari Cave near the Italian resort town of San Felice Circeo has astounded archaeologists, who have long suspected that a considerable population lived in the area. "It is an extraordinary discovery," Dario Franceschini, Italy's cultural minister, said in a statement. "The whole world will be talking about it." One of the Neanderthals dates back 90,000 to 100,000 years, according to a statement by the Italian Cultural Ministry, while the other eight date back 50,000 to 60,000 years. All were male, and one is suspected to have been younger than the others. Quote Discoveries of ventilation holes in the ceiling of the cave had led some anthropologists to believe that Neanderthals also engaged in ritual cannibalism, according to the ministry, which added that some of the discovered bones had been burned.
Adam Peter Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 So maybe everything from Rome to Renaissance roots in "inferior" Neanderthals?
DB Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 It smacks of the re-writing of historical figures to claim that they were great because they were from a minority. it's the beginning of the rehabilitation of Old White Men...
sunday Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 Was there a theory attributing the redhead gene to Neanderthals?
Ivanhoe Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 2 hours ago, sunday said: Was there a theory attributing the redhead gene to Neanderthals? There was, and apparently there were some aboriginals in east Asia with red hair and Neanderthal genes. But I believe there has been more detailed DNA analysis which shows that the Neanderthal genes inherited don't include ginger-vitis.
Mikel2 Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 (edited) Not new, but impressive that something like this would survive. https://m.facebook.com/HistoricPhotographs/photos/a.220359594804465/1831365683703840/?type=3&source=48 Edited June 3, 2021 by Mikel2
Stuart Galbraith Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Im surprised they didnt find anything among the Varian Legions. Perhaps the ground was too acidic.
Stuart Galbraith Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Speaking of Romans, there was a good podcast I was listening to the other day, discussing whatever may have happened to the 9th Legion. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-mystery-of-the-ninth-legion/id1042631089?i=1000523361416

Stuart Galbraith Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Or the hungry Scots just ate them. After all, many is the time I look at Nichola Sturgeon and I can imagine her tucking into a Centurions bicep.

Stuart Galbraith Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 I cant imagine what would be worse, to be devoured by her when dead, or rapaciously when alive. 🤢
TonyE Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Some more on the shields found in Dura-Europos: https://sword-site.com/thread/713/rectangular-oval-shields-dura-europos Unfortunatly the well preserved ancient city of Dura-Europos was destroyed by the Islamic state jerkoffs during the syrian war.
