Its interesting looks rather F-35ish, but notice how small the vertical stabs look...

Here is few low quality pics. Word is that they let people to watch it, but won't let anyone to take pictures with decent cameras.

Looks a lot like the old YF-23.

Not really, more of a bastard child of a sordid menage e trois with an F22, Su-27 and Yak 141.

The all hinging tail fins are interesting though.

Ref the red bold bit, similar in principle to the F-117's.

Is this thing suppose to be a bomber, or interceptor? A tad big to be a fighter unless it is a missile hauler.

Not necessarily. Remember most Chinese are short. Ref. an F-22 for comparison:

All "stealthy" planes with internal weapons carriage (which I presume this has) are going to be bulkier than A/C designed for it to be hung all externally.

Unless this thing flies like a bag of hammers, we are so screwed as even if the F-22/35 are still qualitatively superior, the PRC will be able to produce these in vastly superior numbers.

So what is the message they are trying to send by leaking these pics? "Don't F* with us?" "Lay off N. Korea?" "Look at your Walmart dollars in action?"

Gates is going to visit China soon, he also claimed (few months ago) chinese won't be able to build 5 gen plane before 2018.

Perhaps it's a message to Mr. Gates.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 27, 2010 – Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates will travel to China from Jan. 9 to 12, and then to Japan Jan. 13 and 14. He'll also make a stop in South Korea on Jan. 14, according to defense officials.

Mebe he's there for a test ride and make a sales deal? We've outsourced everything else to China...

We're only talking about a few inches. They are not a bunch of 3 foot midgets.

This plane is large. It does looks like a marriage of an YF-22 and YF-23. I can't see this as being any more then a weapons platform unless they give it vectoring thrust down the road.

I see aircraft carriers and now "stealth" aircraft in much the same way the battleship was perceived in the early 1900s in that national pride is part of the equation.

Speaking of aircraft carriers, do you notice something tucked up between the exhaust nozzles? Could this be a "K model"?

Posted

Could it be used as a longrange stealth supercruise recon bird? Sort of slotted in between a U-2/TR1 and the SR-71. It could be used to do recon over/near Taiwan, the Spratlys and neighboring countries.

Of course I could be completely wrong. :)

I would say it is larger than an F22.

The out-of-scale-small ruddervators tend to exaggerate the effect though.

Doubtful that they would build a specialist recon aircraft. That is not in vogue internationally, and with lots of hidden away payload volume, it wouldn't make much sense.

My guess... If its not an interceptor in the vein of the Mig-31, its an "A" or "B" strike A/C. Maybe a multirole combo of both.

They aren't midgets, at-least not the ones I meet on a regular basis. The smallest I have recently seen might have been 5" shorter than myself, and at my height that still puts him at a respectful vertical distance. The picture of the ChinCom plane in comparison to the average size is a big sob. I keep thinking it is an interceptor mix of sorts. The large size would give it the potential for large tanks, giving it a good range if the design and engines prove efficient; don't see that, but just in case.
