Tanknet is just like my RL Family, in that it seems to take a death to get everyone together again.

Good point.

How do we throw a wake?

I remember Rocky's suggestion in the wake of kin's passing - Sit in the living room, dim the lights, get a good glass of scotch and some good music and remember the man.

Sit in the living room, dim the lights, get a good glass of scotch and some good music . . .

OK, so you described a random Thursday. :P

I guess there's no satisfying way to do it virtually. Bummer.

King's way was both appropiate and cool! too bad it was on the other side of the World.

Does anyone here have a more comprehensive biography of Geoff?

I contacted Sally about doing one. She seemed to think that it was a good idea, and asked me to sit tight for the next few days while the family sorts things out, pending their permission to proceed.

I didn't think to ask if there was one extant, but then she didn't mention one.

The loss of both Geoff and Sargent are terrible news.

Everything written on this forum are now good souvenirs.

Rest in peace friends.

Thibault / Durandal

Welcome back, sir. I hope that you choose to stay with us for a while.

Pick one day - no posting on Tanknet or MLU.

Moderators can run up a black Canadian Maple Leaf flag on each site and the old CBC sign-off

With a note to posters - sign off, go out side, breath deep, be thankful for the sunrise.

Too bad Geoff hated the Red and White, he liked the Red Ensign

The reason I asked, I was thinking about doing a tribute page on my web site like I have done for volunteers that have died, such as here, http://armorfortheages.com/Volunteers/HoffmannTribute/HoffmannPage.htm since Geoff was the host of my web site. But maybe instead it would be beter to do it on TN, along with one for King, as permanent fixtures, so that new members have a reference for the most revered ones who have gone.

It's in the works as we speak, and thats all I can say about it(at this time)

Geoff gave me a Red Ensign a few years ago and when King came to visit me

for those few days, I gave it to him when I learned he didn't have one. He really

especially enjoyed that one of the little this-n-that's I gave him to take home

with him. He was pleased knowing it also had originally come from Geoff. I can easily

lay my hands on another. I had that one to be included in my Uncle Ed's little archive

of his service years so will replace it one day soon. It was a reproduction of course.

Geoff sold them for very little via his website. Many Veterans bought them, I think many did to use at their funerals ... hoping to have it draped over their caskets? I imagine there will be a Red Ensign present for Geoff for his services??? Geoff touched so many Veterans and went all out to help so many of them, or their relatives. Very personally involved with the Kangaroos Veterans and he was force behind the annual Kangaroo gatherings. He loved them all.

Condolences to Geoff's family.

Always thought he inserted a taste of respect into this forum.

RIP.

I was truly sad to hear of Geoff's passing when T19 informed me earlier this week.

I haven't been here in a long time but I remember Geoff's good natured ribbing and his no nonsense approach to managing this grate singt. He complained loudly and often of being born a decade or two too late but I prefer to think that he (and his ilk ;) ) were born at exactly the right time to influence those born 3or 4 decades too late.

RIP Geoff...

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the trail to Hell,

In a shady meadow green

Are the Souls of all dead troopers camped,

Near a good old-time canteen.

And this eternal resting place

Is known as Fiddlers' Green.

Marching past, straight through to Hell

The Infantry are seen.

Accompanied by the Engineers,

Artillery and Marines,

For none but the shades of Cavalrymen

Dismount at Fiddlers' Green.

Though some go curving down the trail

To seek a warmer scene.

No trooper ever gets to Hell

Ere he's emptied his canteen.

And so rides back to drink again

With friends at Fiddlers' Green.

And so when man and horse go down

Beneath a saber keen,

Or in a roaring charge of fierce melee

You stop a bullet clean,

And the hostiles come to get your scalp,

Just empty your canteen,

And put your pistol to your head

And go to Fiddlers' Green.

As I mentioned before I didn't even know he was ill. At the risk of prying how long was his illness and what did he have?
