Ssnake Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 This didn't come unexpected, but that doesn't make it any better.
RETAC21 Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 RIP Geoff. A Gentleman and an Officer, thank you for everything.
Sardaukar Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 I'll mourn him, but the second part is more in my mind in my modified quote: It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should be thankful that such men lived. Thank you Geoff.
DougRichards Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. We will remember them. ======= We have been richer for having Geoff in our lives. May God bless and comfort his family, and those others who will miss him. And may we all lift a cup in his memory. ============= Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind ?Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and auld lang syne ? For auld lang syne, my jo,for auld lang syne,we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,for auld lang syne. And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp !and surely I'll be mine !And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,for auld lang syne. We twa hae run about the braes, and pu'd the gowans fine ;But we've wander'd mony a weary fit,sin auld lang syne. We twa hae paidl'd i' the burn, frae morning sun till dine ;But seas between us braid hae roar'dsin auld lang syne. And there's a hand, my trusty fiere !and gie's a hand o' thine !And we'll tak a right gude-willy waught, for auld lang syne. For auld lang syne, my jo,for auld lang syne,we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,for auld lang syne. Edited December 6, 2010 by DougRichards
Rick Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 To the family of Captain Geoffry Winnington-Ball,My personal condolences to all of you. Try not to dwell on these last few days but on the years of duty, pride and laughter of the preceding years. To Captain Geoffry Winnington-Ball,Sir, you are a big reason why I respect Canada, it's people and her military.
Argus Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 I do hate to get practical but we need a TN wreath, if only to represent those of us spread around the globe. I'll put $50 on the table. If folks close to the scene are too busy, I'll see what can be done via inter flora. Shane
T19 Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 I will be attending the memorial Service next weekend. It would be my honour to represent Geoff's Internet family
Rocky Davis Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 This didn't come unexpected, but that doesn't make it any better. Ditto. RIP Geoff.

BP Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Wow. Just wow. What sad news to start the week. He was a character, with a good sense of humor about himself and the world. I hope he's at peace and enlivening heaven as we type. My condolences to his family.

WBD Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 While I never met him in real life, I always appreciated reading his very straightforward and honest posts (which really helped me to think about what I was doing at the time, when I first arrived on this site). I can't help but feel a real loss when reading this thread. RIP
nitflegal Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Rest in peace to you and condolences to the family. As with King, I think it's easy to get so used to having fine men like this elevating the discourse that you start to forget just how much they add to the community until they're no longer there to do so. This year has truly sucked. Matt
Tim the Tank Nut Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Fri and Sat I couldn't stop checking just in case, then Sunday I "chickened out" and this morning I didn't want to check but decided I had to. It's a hard hit to take.Godspeed
Archie Pellagio Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 I have no words or poetry. Rest In Peace Geoff.
Typhoid Maxx Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 I have no words or poetry. Rest In Peace Geoff. My condolences to the family, my respects to the man. Lessened we are - once more - as a group, but also as of men of good will.
Typhoid Maxx Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 And to add my voice: Suckiest of suckiness.
Harold Jones Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 RIP Geoff, My condolences to the family.
T19 Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 When will this thread be posted/stickied? I will most likely create a new forum with READ only access and post Geoff's and King's threads... and unfortunatly anyone else who dies in the family will get thier thread posted. It will not get pruned
