BansheeOne Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Predicably she said she wasn't allowed to release the original. Ah well, it was worth a try.
BansheeOne Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 BTW my brother also had a pic taken while delivering his girlfriend and Tuccy to the train station with my car after the visit to Kummersdorf and lunch ...
Ssnake Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Barbarians. Cutting out the best of the whole picture.
Marek Tucan Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 ah yes, the speed trap cunningly hidden in trees on a completely flat (okay, not that hard around Berlin), straight stretch of road... And just by 11 kph? Puhh-leeze...
Ken Estes Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Predicably she said she wasn't allowed to release the original. Ah well, it was worth a try.Try asking her to dinner; you need the action anyway! Next time I am in Berlin, I expect you guys to show me your Kummersdorf intros. Cheers, Ken
BansheeOne Posted December 27, 2011 Author Posted December 27, 2011 Of course! Let us know when you're around, since there are various other interested parties who would be up for a (renewed) visit. For good measure, EuropCar sent me an additional invoice over € 9,50 for their trouble of relaying my data to police. Of course it's in their terms, but that's a 30 percent mark-up on the actual fine, and if you get it six weeks after you think you're done with the issue ending in "we hope to soon welcome you at our counter again", that's not a successful exercise in customer relations. Can't be personnel costs either, since I tried calling the number supplied for information the last two days before Christmas at 1610 and 1250 respectively, and got told I was calling outside business hours by the answering machine in both cases. I pointed out that much to the lady I finally reached just now, and she said she would cancel the invoice this one time, thereby narrowly saving the company possible future business with me.
BansheeOne Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 A somewhat sad footnote: Mr. Kieker, the owner of the Kummersdorf collection, died on 24 May at age 69 for no particular reason - just slept in sitting in his chair in the evening and didn't wake up anymore, according to his son. Apparently he was never one to take time off and go on vacation, chosing to pour most of his energy into the museum instead. OTOH that means he burned reasonably long and bright, then just went out without dimming down. He certainly made no frail impression during our visit last year, and in fact I initially thought it was his father who had died; only just now when I called to arrange details for my birthday event in five weeks I realized in mid-talk that the e-mail notifying me of his death was sent by his son who took over for him.
Leo Niehorster Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 He did a great job keeping AFV available and running. Wish there were more like him.Rest in Peace
sunday Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Unbelievable. He seemed so full of life... Requiescat in Pace.
BansheeOne Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 Apparently there was no prior warning whatsoever. He sure didn't sound like he intended to die anytime soon when I first called him two months ago. In fact he related Ssnake had just been to Kummersdorf a couple days earlier to scan his Luchs for Steel Beasts.
Marek Tucan Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Sad news indeed. He did a great job in setting up the collection and maintaining it, he was a real enthusiast. I feel honored that I had the opportunity to visit his collection last year. May he rest in peace.
demosthenes Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Just now read the unfortunate news. Clearly someone who died in the midst of doing something he loved. Is there a brief bio of his life and how he came to build up such a collection?
BansheeOne Posted November 12, 2012 Author Posted November 12, 2012 We talked to his wife at length when we were at Kummersdorf again for my birthday. He seems to have been doing what he did since at least the 70s, in no small part financed by his wife who ran an antiquities business. She told us how both of them travelled all over Europe, Northern Africa and parts of Asia to chase after or trade vehicles; very classy lady. Dave might know more, he knew him longer. The only official thing I find online is his death notice in a local paper:
Dave Clark Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Dave might know more, he knew him longer. Unfortunately not, I´d only met him once about 10 years ago before we organised the trip to Kummersdorf for the I&I. That was at his Berlin operation in the Obentrautstrasse where he hired out vehicles for film/TV companes.
Mike Steele Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Well Fox guy just said that the Girl underwent "terrorist weapons" training, (shooting on the move, from behind cover, etc) so she could be better than she was at what she did. Well all of us underwent similar training, so I guess we all need to turn ourselves in....
BansheeOne Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Wrong I&I, but we catch your drift.
shep854 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Looks like 2015 floated off into the aether...
