I can vouch that Vodka, consumed in large enough quantities, can lead into very spiritual experiences.

Vodka is for mixing with tonic and limes, so I buy the cheaper non-Russian stuff. Svedka is like $18 for a 1.75L bottle. Sobieski is pretty good also and maybe $20 for a 1.75L. S/F.....Ken M

Personally the only vodka I would pay my own money for is Finlandia, everything else - cheap or expensive - tastes exactly the same to my uncivilised whiskey drinking palette...

I have found that I am a big fan of the potato vodkas from that lovely country. I'm fortunate that the local super-liquor store has a co-owner who really loves vodka, so I just let him tell me which new one to try. I've found that the ones I used to like (Absolut, I'm looking at you!) taste like harsh medicinal alcohol now. There are some awfully good vodkas out there for less than 420 a bottle.

Ex-girlfriend swore by Grey Goose, which usually led to her swearing at me. :)

Me? The only way I like vodka is in Bloody Marys. I buy the cheapest vodka I can find, currently Kamchatka @ $9.95 for a 1.75L bottle. I buy two bottles, deseed and cut up one green, one red and one yellow bell peppers, a couple of jalapenos, a couple of chiles, one habanero and a small piece of ginger root and place them in a sun tea jar with spout. Pour in the vodka, and it's a great Bloody Mary mixer. Add Mr and Mrs T spicy bloody mary mix, a dash o worcestershire sauce an olive or two and....a tablespoon of dill pickle juice.

On a related note, I can vouch that large quantities of Belgian Beer can turn old Christmas Trees into lawn darts

You heretics...the only two right ways to drink vodka are

1) In ice cold Vodka (yes keep it in freezer for hour or so) from to the brim filled schnapps class or

2) pocket warm vodka straight from the bottle or pocket flask

Belive me Finnish people are the pros:

Nordic Alcohol Statistics 2008:

According to the Nordic Alcohol Statistics, Finnish people consumed more alcohol than citizens of

any other Nordic country in 2008. This was the first time alcohol consumption was highest in

Finland. In past years, Denmark has had the highest consumption per capita. In 2008, the total

consumption of alcoholic beverages (documented and undocumented consumption combined) in

Finland was 12.5 litres of pure alcohol per capita aged 15 and over. The corresponding figure for

Denmark was 11.7 litres. Documented alcohol consumption in Finland amounted to 10.3 litres of

pure alcohol per capita aged 15 and over, compared with 10.7 litres in Denmark. Consumption in

the other Nordic countries ranged from 6.8 to 7.5 litres.

Finns consumed more strong alcoholic beverages than citizens in the other Nordic countries. In

2008, strong alcoholic beverages accounted for 2.7 litres of the pure alcohol consumed in Finland,

while the figure was between 1.1 and 1.7 litres in the other Nordic countries. In Finland, strong

alcoholic beverages accounted for some 26 per cent of the alcohol consumption, compared with

16–20 per cent in the other Nordic countries.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Rye whiskey using George Washington's own recipe will soon go on sale at the first president's Mount Vernon estate in Virginia.

The presidential home reconstructed Washington's distillery and will make more than 1,100 bottles of unaged whiskey available beginning April 4. The bottles sell for $95 each.

Mount Vernon says the rye is the most authentic version of Washington's whiskey available. Washington was a detailed record keeper, and distillers used the same grain recipe and fermentation process as it was done 250 years ago.
